35. I tend to agree...
.... smoking is bad for you, but then I'd rather live a short honorable life than a long one of infamy. :)

Full disclosure: I smoke one cigarette a day. It isn't helping my health but I doubt it's hurting much either.

41. Yikes! You misinterpreted my post.
I'm saying that we shouldn't be held hostage by the fear of hurting our health all the time. I'm a runner, like to exercise, but I smoke anywhere from 0-15 cigarettes a week.

Believe me, I'm firmly in the camp of 75% of your health is genetic anyway. Almost everyone on my dad's side up to my great-great grandparents have lived to 90, and almost all of them smoke. Most like their wine too.

Now, go be healthy and cut your carbs! That is, until the newest health fad comes out.

44. Yeah...
... the sun.

It's amazing how man has lived on earth in the sun for 10,000 years without sunscreen.

Now, if you get 10 minutes of sun your life is over. Not.

IMHO, sunburns are bad. Repeated exposure will make you leathery. But a little tan here and there is probably health-inducing.

Edited on Mon Apr-26-04 05:17 PM by BlueEyedSon
I meant that expression figuratively, not literally.
Anyway I think the text explains my point.

Are you listening to her? She is VERY testy today (as opposed to assertive). Maybe too much caffiene...

:)

PS I promise not to use the word "bitch", even as a verb.....

25. Would you have used that expression
figuratively, not literally, about a man?

Too much caffeine? Maybe she is truly outraged at what Prince Bandar said yesterday?

You probably didn't mean anything by it, but those type of statements are what are used to dismiss women's legitimate heartfelt, emotions.

Think about what you would feel if people said you were on the rag, or that you just had too much caffeine when you presented an impassioned case.

Hard to single out one day when the Bush admin's reign seems "better"....

Poor choice of words on my part. And yes, I use that expression about men too (even if its origins are not consistent with that). But probably less insulting than the suggestion that she is on crack today.

9. maybe crack.
I'm sorry. I do like and agree with a lot of what she's saying. But does she ever listen to her callers or let them complete a sentence? And does she have to scream the whole show? Honestly, she's driving me nuts. I just screamed at her to shut up. I think she has a serious ego problem. There's so much truth in what she's saying, but it's lost in her practically incompetent way of saying it. I don't think she's serving the cause very well today, IMHO.

Over here we are even less used to commercials. Watching CNN with 3 minute breaks every 7 minutes is really killing me.

Then again, I wonder if we'd be counted in Randi's listeners usinf archives like this. Her show deserves support.

*feels slightly guilty*

Edited on Mon Apr-26-04 04:55 PM by Wheaty
He was referring to an exclusive club called the Bohemian Grove that many Republican presidents have belonged to. That owl think is true.

http://www.fair.org/extra/best-of-extra/bohemian-grove.html

"Walter Cronkite, now on the CBS board, hangs out at the same lodge at Bohemian Grove as George Bush and the former chairs of Procter & Gamble and Bank of America; Cronkite's voice has served as the voice of the Owl of Bohemia, a fixture in the club's mock-druidic rituals."

21. Let me tell you how call-ins are regarded
At best they are to be used to make the show- if that means a caller has to be humiliated, so be it, if a rambling caller has to be dismissed, so what?

At worst, they are considered kooks. Either way, no matter how many callers the host pisses off, there will always be another.

No offense to those of you who call, I've heard some great calls, but the show isn't for you, it is for the 99% of people who will never call. So if some poor sap has to be humiliated for Randi to make a point, or if you aren't moving the show in the direction she wants, so be it.

My experience comes from a well known talk radio station in NY now dominated by cons.

Loved when she told the woman who said: "We were lazy" : "What's the matter with you? We won! They stole it!"
