Greg Palast: Oil-Slick Jim (Baker) Moves In (to office in the White House)
Why does former Secretary of State James Baker, now a lobbyist for the oil industry, have an office in the White House? The answer is in the State Department's secret 'Iraq Strategy' paper.

Oil-Slick Jim Moves In

By Greg Palast, AlterNet
April 26, 2004

Editor's Note: This piece is excerpted from the new edition of The Best Democracy Money Can Buy (Plume), by Greg Palast.

I usually avoid the New York Times, but lately it's become a compulsion, though only for the new daily column titled, "Names of the Dead." Today's listing: "DERVISHI, Ervin, 21, Pfc, Army. Fort Worth."

I'm not one of those cynics who thought Bush sent us into to Iraq for the oil. To me, Saddam Hussein was always a Kurd-killing cockroach with a Hitlerian mustache. I never liked the guy – not even when he worked for George Bush Sr.

It's worth going over the work the Butcher of Baghdad did for his Texas patrons when he was their butcher: ..more..

1. Bush is in trouble and Baker always has to help the Bush men.
They dragged him out about 6 months ago so they saw trouble. All I can say is he was called off his job with father and we know what happened.

4. Just when you thought the White House couldn't get any more rancid,
along comes Jim Baker to bring his charm and bail another Bush's ass out of the fire.

9. The Carlyle Group is just down the street, so I certainly don't understand
this move. Baker's knowledge of the law and his juice with the supreme court must be the reason.

I'd say that things must be looking bad for junior.
