did George W. Bush claim to have been in war ?
i remember something about how bush claimed he was in war once. does anyone have any more information and links on this. i think he said it before 9/11 because it was something i talked to friends about when we were talking about what an asshole he is and how he lied about things.

the fierce Viet Cong Air Force.

2. I think so
I think it was something like "I've been to war and I've raised twins. If I had the choice I'd go to war" or something like that.

I think someone here has it in a sig line.

3. Yeah that is what I remember him saying
and I'd rather raise the twins than go to war... quite frankly kids can be a challenge, but war... it is a whole different matter, only chickenhawks think it is fun.

5. Yep
Exact quote (according to motherjones.com) given to Houston Chronicle in January 2002

"I've been to war. I've raised twins. If I
had a choice, I'd rather go to war."

We are all wondering which war that was - maybe it was just a coke addled beer fuelled hallucination

10. Maybe he meant like that super-secret Thanksgiving trip.
"Going to War" as in taking a trip there undercover for all of 2 hours and high-tailing it back out to safety.

George W. Bush on sacrifice:

6. I think what he means by "I" have been to war
is that he ordered US troops to go to war in Afghanistan, not that he went to war himself.

I think Bush made a very honest statement, and his honesty should be commended for his honesty. He probably does prefer sending soldiers to war over quietly raising children.

7. Mike Malloy
had a clip of him saying "One thing I learned in Vietnam was you can't fight a guerilla war..." I forgot the rest.

8. Here It Is
"I learned some good lessons from Vietnam. First, there must be a clear mission. Secondly, the politics ought to stay out of fighting a war. There was too much politics during the Vietnam War."
Associated Press, March 2002

The irony is fucking incredible, just fucking incredible. Almost enough to overwhelm the dispicable implied service lie -- "ooh, he's a seasoned veteran who's learned lots of lessons in the jungles of 'Nam."

Only thing that ratfucker learned was how to get high by night while working Blount's campaign during the day.

11. How do you suppose that made the twins feel?
I feel sorry for those poor young women. Imagine having him as your dad!
