A Chickenhawk is a Strange Type of Bird |
|
They see war in a different perspective than everyone else. Since they have never seen combat, they can only imagine -in their fertile and violent minds - what it would be like . They see flags furling in the breeze and medals and parades and that is their idea of "patriotism". They see American soldiers that are giants and are invincible and who never bleed and die on the battlefield.
They see the military as the symbol of freedom in this nation, yet when they had the chance to defend that freedom, they flew away. They imagine themselves as competent to lead armies and generals into war because they have visualized war in their fantasies. They stand themselves up as moral standardbearers - ready to cast doubt on anyone that does not fit their idea of a "patriot".
They are dangerous birds. Because they cannot understand war and its unpredictability. Nor can they understand that our troops are not supermen. They do not understand that they bleed and die like every other human on earth. They have an unquestioned faith in military toys and weaponry. To put chickenhawks in charge of the military and the war-making mechanisms of our country is indeed a dangerous mission.

2. I think they understand war perfectly. |

However, they think the fighting is for the lower classes to do. It is rather for them, the "born leaders", to valiantly lead the country from the rear. How could we endanger a brilliant mind like GW Bush in combat? The chickenhawks display the same disdain for soldiers as they do for the working man. They pay lip service to the brave soldiers at the same time they murder soldiers in needless profiteering wars.
