Ignorance is not acceptable any more. I understand your point, but every American has a duty to go out and inform themselves. This duty has never been easier to fulfill than it is today. If one is ignorant, it is their own fault.

When we're living in a country where the media is owned by fascists, and what is reported is only what the right wingers want...the general public doesn't see what's really happening...
And when people have to work as many hours to make ends meet as they have to nowadays, there's just no time to explore alternative news media...people only have time to take the news at it's face value, and most are unable or unwilling to spend the time to explore like many of us do...
But I also understand, that if I can take the time to do it (single parent, 50 hour a week job), others should be able to too...
Yeah, it's damned infuriating!!!

e·lit·ism or é·lit·ism n.
1. The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources. 2. 1. The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class. 2. Control, rule, or domination by such a group or class.
My first impulse was to be a smart ass and say that I was an elitist and that I agreed with the original poster. But then I checked the dictionary and realized that the definition perfectly described * and his minions.

What amazes me is how Morans use the *exact* same words and phrases! It's like Rove puts out the fax, everybody from Jack Cafferty to Rush Limbaugh repeats it to death, and the next thing you know Morans are squawking the very same thing as if they'd thought of it all by themselves.
Examples:
"Clinton was offered bin Laden on a silver platter..." "Gassed his own people..." "Support the president/Troops in harm's way..." "If ...the terrorists win..."
No doubt we'll soon be hearing about "steady leadership..."

Reagan was preznit for eight years. Then we got Bush I. Yeah, there was a nice breather of 8 years while Clinton was in the Oval Office but the congressional repukes kept him tied in knots (and they were elected by someone). Now look what we've got--and the polls show him running neck and neck with the "best" the Democrats can come up with...
Sorry, I can't think of any other explanation except vast numbers of morans.

18. Let me re-post what I just replied to the first one about the truth: |
|
(the discussion was about how dumb the American people are to keep supporting Bush)and this is what I wrote: Here's where we are. Unfortunately the Kerry campaign has sucked and has been as bad at planning an attack as Georgie is in solving Iraq. Read here last night that THANK GOD the ad writers have been fired---my, god, a high school student could have done as well. Someone is finally figuring out that we are numerous days late and a few nickles short!! From Time magazine I discovered that Kerry has two groups in his campaign. The first is headed by Mary (I bailed your ass out in Iowa) Cahill who brings with her people from what they term the "Ted Kennedy" office and who have the view of 'take the fight to them and smash them in the face". The other is a bunch of old DLC/Clinton people who want us to be low key, nice, pansy-like. And apparently Kerry was drifting again over to their side (come on John, how many goddamn times to you have to fire people like that to get the picture?!). Hopefully, once John lost his cool yesterday that bells went off and they can see by newspapers, etc. today that he not only made news but did damage to Bush. He has to flush these old Clinton people and he better run like a son of a bitch back to Cahill and the "Kennedy" approach. Honey, it's our failure as much as the American public's stupidity at fault here. We either wise up or we are dead before we even begin to fight.

Did I say that I have disdain for "ordinary working people"? Where did I say that... Guess what Bub..I'm an ordinary working person, and so is my wife and so are a whole bunch of other Americans who take a couple of minutes each day to understand WTF is going on around them. You're basically defending er Americans who haven't a clue about why this Country is taking a fast turn towards facisim because what? they work!
So if you're an "Ordinary Working Person" I guess that means in your mind that it's OK to be ignorant about what is going on in your own country. :eyes:

You appear to be the only one using the deliberately inflammatory phrase "great unwashed" ...
Yes, most of the posters here *are* better than the majority of Bush supporters for the simple reason that they are capable of independent thought rather than just swallowing the Fox news (et al) party line every night, forgetting all of the past cockups/cover-ups and ignoring everything they are told to by Rove's team of puppet-masters.
Is this view politically incorrect? Maybe. Is this view factually incorrect? No.
The "smart rock" cartoon is (sadly) still true.

No, thinking you are better than they are is part of the problem in the U.S. They have it. You have it. Nobody listens. Everybody yells. Nothing gets done and the U.S. is mired in chaos.
It is possible to disagree or even disagree wildly with someone and not get caught up with the ego rush of thinking you are their better.

> I am deliberately using the inflammatory phrase > Because I want to make it obvious what is going on here.
So it's ok for you to be sarcastic but not the original poster? Hmmm
> It is possible to disagree or even disagree wildly with someone and > not get caught up with the ego rush of thinking you are their better.
Very true. That happens a lot round here. A prerequisite for such a "agree to disagree" status is that both sides have an element of logic, a consistent approach, a rationality that allows constructive debate.
On the other hand, when the "great unwashed" (to use your term) refuse to acknowledge the existance of an alternative, when the efforts to present logical arguments are met with animalistic irrational ignorance, that's when people start to question the nature of their opponent.
There comes a point when the struggle is simply one between those capable of independent thought and those only capable of being led.
Refusal to accept this (i.e., to pretend that there really is no difference between the two sides) does not make you any wiser.
