Only one reply: He DID serve in Vietnam
I am angry that we get dragged into this battle about medals and ribbons and about the "worth" of the purple hearts.

Kerry chose to go to Vietnam, he could have been killed, maimed for life but with courage and, yes, luck, he survived. With honor.

Let's not the pugs drag us into their territory. Let's not them defining the debate.

Kerry DID serve in Vietnam. He knows what it means to be in a war zone, under fire. He knows what it means to bond with one's brothers. That's all what matters.

That is the key to victory.

I cannot believe *Bush Inc chose to make this an issue.

They are so going to get trounced.

Edit spelling

3. whatever else Kerry did, HE SHOWED UP
That's more than AWOL Bush can say.

Personally I think he was absolutely right to protest the Vietnam war after he got back. As someone who had been there he had more right than anybody else to do so.

4. And dont let them play the "only four months and out" game...
Kerry was in for four years - did two tours in VietNam - the second tour is the controversial one.

6. And voluntarily
You make a good point -- if 1971 is fair game, doesn't this open the door to Chimpy's "Closet of Youthful Indiscretions?"

8. I keep thinking how interesting it would be if Kerry were to ask
Bush what he did with his medals, then pause and say - oh yeah, you don't have any.

9. While Kerry was showing up, Bush* was showing off.
Remember the reports of W's behavior in Alabama during the campaign he worked on? He bragged every day about how much he drank the night before.

Hey, America! Do you want a president who shows up or one who only shows off?

10. I don't remember that
but I keep wondering where all the people are who knew him during those years... Surely if there are John O'Neill's out there, there are plenty of Chimpy's old drinking buddies or others who knew him.

13. To get at Kerry
they literally have to trash all recipients of the medal, all veterans, perhaps George Washington himself. Only a fool could parse this whiny issue so finally as to leave Kerry ONLY exposed to unprecedented, cowardly and inappropriate criticism.

And I am glad some have noted publicly it is behind skirts of women shills no less that this insane attack is carried forth. And the irresponsible media has created a legitimate forum for the madmen to poison the minds of the rational with tripe like this.

They should not be ashamed so much as AFRAID, because in this universe this junk will not fly. It only helps Kerry and sheds disgrace and dishonor on all those to whom it rightfully belongs, especially Looking Glass media sources.

Cheney too, whatever his ideology and strategy sounds very much like a surly, temper flashing drunk I once knew. Plenty on the books on Cheney to explain that too with more cause than nitpicking over someone's wounds of valor.

14. I agree
I hope we see a lot of veterans out there -- especially those who were with VVAW -- expressing their outrage at these insults!! What kind of "support the troops" sentiment is this?!

16. Kind of like the families of accused molesters
Dubya's immutable base(what, %42?)only becomes more galvanized in the face of all the scandals. It reminds me of the Jackson clan or Scott Peterson's family. It is easier to react defensively than accept a hurtful reality.
