BBV - While waiting for GBnC's big story....off topic question

Ok so we're all waiting patiently....

Please permit me to ask a question of the more seasoned DUers here.

Here at DU, there seems to be heavy use of a term to berate or perhaps insult those with whom one rather emphatically,(or more-than-passionately), disagrees.

The term is MOR?NS, however I find that more often than not, it is spelled morAns rather than morOns.

The term is used so frequently that I can't help but wonder if there is some significance to this particular spelling.

Would someone please enlighten me, lest I become one in my ignorance?
