Where were the Dems???
I was reading the “Felonious Elephant” this AM. Story there about a battle for Pa. Attorney General in today’s election, and repug candidate Bruce Castor. Besides going after his opponent, Castor is also going after “Pennsylvania Republican godfather Bob Asher, whom he describes as ‘a convicted felon who went to prison for perjury, bribery, and conspiracy.’" You know, a typical repub party official. Nothing new here.

So I’m reading that article, clink to the link …and I see this little line..:
“The winner in November replaces Jerry Pappert, who was appointed to replace Mike Fisher, now a federal judge.”

Oh, crap! It can’t be. It can’t be THAT Mike Fisher!!! Did a search. Sad to say that it is. Now, here’s the story about Mike Fisher.

So, you have a federal jury that decided that then Attorney General Mike Fisher and members of his senior staff retaliated against investigative agents, and that they must pay the two former investigators a total of $1.5 million as punishment.

Big deal. Now what? Guess what George W. Bush did with this “good man”? Three months later, he nominated Fisher to serve on the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals!

According to NOW: And on the issue of civil rights, Fisher holds the remarkable distinction among President Bush's nominees of having been found by a jury to have violated the federal civil rights of state employees, while his nomination was being vetted by the White House. A Pennsylvania jury assessed $100,000 against him for maliciously or wantonly violating the civil rights of two narcotics agents who were transferred after they refused to back off of an investigation.” (I could make a comment about the Administration’s commitment to the “War on Drugs” here, but I’ll let it pass.)

Just peachy. Fisher was supposed to appeal the decision, but I don’t know if he actually did. Not that it would have mattered much – the appeal would have been heard by the Third Circuit, the court to which Fisher has been nominated.

When I first read this story, I was pissed. Thought this clown would never make it to the Appeals Court. Just where in hell were the democrats on the Judiciary Committee or on the Senate floor that allowed this to happen?
