It was a symbolic gesture for Christ's sake |
|
What is so hard for everyone to understand? Kerry made a symbolic gesture at his disgust for the way the Vietnam War was being handled. Medals/ribbons were the symbol. He will never, not have those awards. They were recorded on official documents for heroic deeds done. No one can take that away from him. He was as brave in his anti-war stance as he was during his actual war experience. This type of bravery is not common especially for Republicans. They idolize people like Kerry and would give anything if he were on their side. By doing such a thing as throwing away recognition of such heroism he shoved it in their face that Republican hero worship was neurotic and they hate and admire him for that. We should just keep asking What heroic deeds did Cheney or Bush* ever do and let this medal thing just go by the wayside. Kerry is a Hero on the battlefield and off. They would give anything to be thought of as highly as Kerry is thought of.

1. The facts don't matter. They'll latch onto whatever they can and spin |

2. Look at it from the Republican's point of view |
|
In the space of a few short years, their party has trashed the economy, allowed several large landmark buildings to be destroyed, lost a jet full of secret technology to the Chinese, launched TWO wars -- neither of which seem to be drawing to a successful conclusion anytime soon, and have since been caught lying about 3 score times.
This 'issue' with Kerry's medals is all they got to campaign on. They got nothing else.

4. I sense that this whole thing is blowing up on them |

Now bush's "military record" will be brought up again and that is most certainly not good for him, especially if they want to keep hammering on Kerry for being "soft" on defense. I can just see rove saying "holy shit, change the subject NOW!".
