Limbaugh Just Asked "How Can You Support the Troops..." |
|
"...but not support the Commander in Chief?"
But didn't Trent Lott say that was exactly what the GOP was doing during the Clinton Administration?

A group of people known to be irrational due to their addiction, and recovery takes a looooooong time to gain that rationality back. If it was ever there in the first place...

11. The saddest thing is not that Rush would say this... |
|
but that some people will accept his logic, and repeat it.
And I'm willing to bet they're the same ones who parroted Lott's comment about Clinton.
I don't think there's actually any cognition here, just reaction: moss in a petrie dish, that's all.

13. Another example of right-wing selective memory |
|
Right-wingers act like they've forgotten completely how they treated former Commander in Chief Bill Clinton. Whether it was Jesse Helms saying that Bill Clinton would need a bodyguard if he ever came to visit any of the military bases in North Carolina, to the many Republicans that said Clinton's 1998 bombing of Iraq was a "wag the dog" scenario, there are many instances where Clinton, as Commander in Chief, was not supported.

14. Let's see what Teddy Roosevelt had to say about it |
|
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
This was said in response to Woodrow Wilson's crack down on dissent and revival of the Sedition Acts during WWI.
Woodrow Wilson was the George W. Bush of his day.

19. I don't think I agree with your last statement |
|
In your post, you stated, "Woodrow Wilson was the George W. Bush of his day."
While I see your point regarding the Espionage and Sedition Acts, I think Wilson, in many ways, was a far better president than Bush*.
He was the sponsor of the League of Nations. While it ultimately failed to embody his dream, it was the precursor to the United Nations.
He was an educated man. While Bush* can claim to have a MBA from Harvard, Wilson passed the attorney's bar and earned a PhD. from Johns Hopkins University. He was also a noted author and professor.
There are many negatives to Wilson, but I think it is a simplification to compare a complex individual like him to a sockpuppet like the current (p)resident.

21. Woodrow Wilson was more intelligent than Bush |
|
But suffered from the same Messianic delusions. WWI was God's work, and a "War to end all Wars" and make the world safe for democracy. And like Bush, he couldn't stand to be criticized.
Throw in the fact that he was an avowed racist and a union buster, and I think Woodrow would feel right at home among the Neocons.

|
'Early Neocon' - isn't that an oxymoron?
Anyway, I was wondering if there's any link between Wilson and the guy from the University of Chicago, Leo Strauss. I googled, and then realized that Strauss had left Germany just before Hitler took over, and was too young to have been involved in Wilson's administration.
Interesting anyway.

15. Simple! We don't want the Troops to die for Bush Vanity war. |
|
If you can get past Rush's screeners id hit him with that one. Iraq was NO THREAT to the United States therefore there was no need to put Americans in harms way. We did not want the troops to go over there and die just for the needs of the few ( Oil and money ) I really wonder how these pigs can sleep at night knowing that over 700 Americans are no more over a pack of lies.

16. By expecting the CinC to use the troops |

wisely, and only after all other options are exhausted. By trying to get them home safely when the CinC uses our kids, friends and relatives stupidly, putting them in harm's way in some poorly planned attempt to settle personal grudges, pass massive profits to his buddies, or gain control of the world's oil supply.

|
Edited on Tue Apr-27-04 01:03 PM by yella_dawg
He went on to say that "intellectually" you can't separate the troops from the CinC. Which is the key to all this. He probably really can't. His synapses just aren't up to the task. And the same applies to his core audience. They just don't have the computing power to work the full length of even a simple argument.

The Limbaugh "intellectualization of hatred" for liberals allows so called "conservatives" to form a consensus that because some liberals are misguided they are all out to destroy capitalism....and thus completely smear their personalities and demean their entire lives because of their "liberalism". Never mind that Clinton was one of the most effective presidents of all time in turning around Reaganism....the destructive (ironically anti-capitalism) force we must deal with today from the right wing.
On the other hand, a Reaganite like Bush is above reproach because of his BELIEFS. Never mind what Bush does....it really doesn't matter as long as we BELIEVE in him. Limbaughism is really a form of corporate religion, in which one BELIEVES that by being conservative they are part of a camaraderie of aspiring entrepreneurs that understand what it takes to get ahead and succeed. As long as you sign up to this subliminal formula for success, you are in the club (provided you follow the tide of anti-liberalism)...and you then have the conservative teflon coat for whatever misdeeds you might commit.
Meanwhile....everything else in terms of politics is explained by their "virtues" of knowing what is right and what is wrong...and the ultimate extension of this is the psycho religious holy belief that we should go around the world and right their wrongs too.

How many American soldiers died under Clinton? How many American civilians?
During his Presidency, we used diplomacy and his power of persuation to promote American interests in the world. When troops were committed, it was not to further his economic/political agenda.
Bush has taken the opposite tack, using our military to further his narrow agenda. Instead of fighting terror as an international criminal matter when we had the world's sympathy and collective agreement, he chose to execute his hidden agenda which has actually created a far more dangerous world. As a result, he has weakened our defense, severely damaged our international reputation, and settled us into a ME quagmire.
His incompetence is why he should be rightfully impeached.

24. I Actually Dropped His Ratings Last Year |

I kept an Arbitron diary one month last year. And during that month, Limbaugh and Hannity both lost audience share in the Pueblo/Colorado Springs area.
And KRCC (the local NPR station) gained market share.
