Edited on Tue Apr-27-04 01:40 PM by JohnKleeb
He went to my HS, graduated before I started HS but it was aunnoced today, and I prayed being sort of relgious. First coast guardsman to die since Vietnam. So sad, and hes just one of the many who have died. Afterwards, and I cant explain it you guys but I felt like enlisting in the military, which is very ironic being I strongly oppose this war and most wars, I fear war, I hate guns, and I have a heart condition. Odd, just sharing.

3. Sorry to hear that
Damn sad.

Your reaction is perfectly natural. The instinct to defend is just that - instinct. Thank goodness your intellect trumps your instinct. :)

7. That's awful
I don't think I'd ever have that feeling. At this point no one *has* to go unless they've already signed up.

I really hope they don't re-start the draft. :scared:

8. I know
I really fear a draft too, its been in the back of my mind for my whole life. I did hear but not directly that Kerry said no draft.

4. Most people don't know the Coasties
are over there - they never think about it - just assume they're here along the coasts and waterways, etc. They're rather close-knit (quite small in comparison to the others). Navy jokingly (course it makes Coasties mad) calls them "puddle pirates"

9. Don't go. Stay home and live to grow up
and have a long life of your own.

It's not as though the sons and daughters of the gung-ho right-wingers who support this war are all enlisting in great numbers.

to Iraq will not help your feelings about his death, but will give Bush one more victim in this horrible situation.

I'm sorry too, about his death. All their deaths, the whole damned Invasion.
