Marines: Cease-fire still holds

Reporting Tuesday from Ramadi, about 30 miles west of Fallujah, NBC's Kevin Sites was briefed on the Fallujah attacks by Marine officials. Officials told Sites that a sizeable insurgent force attacked Marine positions in Fallujah, an assault that prompted the Marines to retaliate with heavy air support.

NBC's Carl Rochelle, relaying information from Sites, reported that the Marine retaliation was not a resumption of offensive action but was an example of Marines defending themselves aggressively after being attacked.

Sites said the Marines responded to the attack with what they called “appropriate force.” He also reported that the Marines said the retaliation did not signal an end to the cease-fire.

I was pretty young, but I seem to remember that there would be all these "cease-fires", but every night on the news they would show the fighting and the numbers killed and wounded grew no matter what.
