1. According to this, I'm a "realist." |
|
Realist
-- Are guided more by practical considerations than ideological vision -- Believe US power is crucial to successful diplomacy - and vice versa -- Don't want US policy options unduly limited by world opinion or ethical considerations -- Believe strong alliances are important to US interests -- Weigh the political costs of foreign action -- Believe foreign intervention must be dictated by compelling national interest
Historical realist: President Dwight D. Eisenhower Modern realist: Secretary of State Colin Powell

truely Centrist/moderate point of view out there. Unfortunately, it has lately (last couple years) had a slight right wing bias which is clearly identified by this test. Identifying the least successful Democratic Presidents of the last 80 years as a liberal (where the hell is FOUR TERM LANDSLIDE FDR, TRUMAN Kennedy, Johnson, Clinton and and identifying the most successful Republican Presidents in the last 100 years as a Conservatives. Theodore Roosevelt WAS THE FIRST PROGRESSIVE president since Abe Lincoln, thus can't be a conservative. Additionaly how come, only Republcians make the cut as realists?

was reading the descriptions of the neocons (it was obvious what their answers would be) and knowing there are people out there who believe and subscribe to those ideas.

Isolationist
The term isolationist is most often used negatively; few people who share its beliefs use it to describe their own foreign policy perspective. They believe in "America first." For them, national sovereignty trumps international relations. Many unions, libertarians, and anti-globalization protesters share isolationist tenets.
Isolationists…
Are wary of US involvement in the United Nations Oppose international law, alliances, and agreements Believe the US should not act as a global cop Support trade practices that protect American workers Oppose liberal immigration Oppose American imperialism Desire to preserve what they see as America's national identity and character

But seriously, what's really shocking was reading through the choices and knowing that there ARE people out there that prescribe to the neocon mantra. Just reading those choices along with the others makes it so unbelievably obvious that these are not sound ideas.

18. What a bunch of sh1t.... |
|
I mean, look at question 4 about Iran...it didn't offer the correct choice: that the situation in Iran is 100% totally a result of American imperialism and that we owe the people of Iran reparations to recover the damages caused their society by our illegal support to the Pahlavi regime.
Then, how about question 7: America's superpower status. Again, they didn't offer the obvious correct answer: that America's military-industrial complex has been the prime driver behind the so-called "superpower" status. That it has only been used to oppress other nations from around the world. And that America should totally disarm.
And so on throughout the "quiz." I don't know who put it together, but it is apparent that they had an agenda when they designed the questions.
And then they identified me as an isolationist. It's nuts...

...the Pahlavi regime was the Shah (pre-Khomeni). The US propped him up for years. We had military bases over there. Any other questions???
Before you flame next time...make sure you have your facts straight.

Compare it to most of the tripe you see in on-line polls or other 'quizes'. You actually have to read the questions and give them some thought. What a refreshing change.
