Where's that Powell National Guard quote? and some * Vietnam quotes
Edited on Tue Apr-27-04 09:11 PM by buycitgo
you know the one, from his autobio?

the one in which he castigates rich Vietnam-era national guard "volunteers," who used their money and position in order to get out of serving in the real military?

why on earth haven't some of Kerry's surrogates (where are you, Gen. Clarke?) SHOUTING that one from the rooftops?

anybody have that one?

can't believe Kerry's campaign isn't aware of it.

if they are, why the hell aren't they CIRCULATING it with a vengeance?

don't they have ANY sort of blastfax brigade?

or are they just ignored by the liberal media?

silly question, I guess.

EDIT....here's the quote.......make you mad, much?

"I am angry that so many of the sons of the powerful and well-placed... managed to wangle slots in Reserve and National Guard units...Of the many tragedies of Vietnam, this raw class discrimination strikes me as the most damaging to the ideal that all Americans are created equal and owe equal allegiance to their country."

- Secretary of State Colin Powell, 1995

from the Hamster, via Powell's own book.......dunno about the elisions

and what about Carville/Begala? why don't THEY bring it up?

another EDIT:

how about some sweet dubya Vietnam era quotes, like this:

"I was not prepared to shoot my eardrum out with a shotgun in order to get a deferment, nor was I willing to go to Canada, so I chose to better myself by learning how to fly airplanes."
- Bush (1994) About the Vietnam war.

1. From what I saw today, Carville can't get a word in edgewise
without getting shouted down.

2. disagree on that one.....he let Rahm Emanuel do the talking today......
a VERY wise decision

I posted on that elsewhere, and will put it up here, as it demonstrated the great value Emanuel has to the campaign

NOBODY has done a better job than he did today, IMO

he was amazing

hold on a minute

4. I only saw part, but he did not come out on top of what I saw
Glad to hear he did better later.

6. he started out slowly, but ceded the game to Emanuel.....check this
from another thread, by me:

"BTW, I saw Xfire today, and thought that Carville, while restrained, was wise in 'said' restraint, as Rahm Emanuel was a MONSTER!

he eloquently and pointedly dismantled every point the whiny/pouty Tucker and congressman mark foley, R., Dementia, tried to make

Emanuel should be a ubiquitous presence as a surrogate:

he knows his stuff on a range of issues, from economics, to Israel, to other foreign policy.....anything I've seen him discuss, he's as well versed as anyone I've seen.

PLUS......and this is important....he's UNFLAPPABLE.

I loved the way he several times just literally waved off Tucker's importuning interruptions, then continued making his point, without missing a beat; without raising his voice"

5. seriously! but.........tin foil hat time here........
is it possible that they're just not getting the airtime?

are the liberal networks keeping the quotient of
fascist : sane person at a ratio that will make a reasonable mainstream dialogue impossible?

sure seems to be the case at this point.

how many times have you seen the likes of that French sow Karen Hughes on alone, spouting her venomous filth without any contravention by the cheerleading host? has she EVER had someone on from the other side during this little publicity run she's getting?

contrast that to the likes of Conason, Alterman, you name it....when they did their own book runs, they were most often accompanied by a fascoid naysayer; at very least the hosts were completely different than the obsequious buttmunchers they play to Hughes, Frum, Podhoretz, etal

thank goddess for AAR

it's on again in Chicago, for some reason

7. "Powell Denigrates National Guard" (sic)

8. thanks for digging it up....I found it, too.....point IS:
WHEN are we going to start hearing about this, now that the fascist swineherd has chosen to take such a brazenly low road?

are they certain that the media will IGNORE the Bush side of the equation again, just as they did in 2000?

Kerry had BETTER get a lot of surrogates out there NOW, and keep it going.

they must NOT let it die like they did the first time.

I don't think the media will bother with it a third time

anyone else have thoughts on that?

they resistes mightily earlier this year, disingenuosly claiming they covered it four years ago

what a cruel joke

9. I/m FURIOUS that Kerry's boys haven't used quotes like THIS
"I was not prepared to shoot my eardrum out with a shotgun in order to get a deferment, nor was I willing to go to Canada, so I chose to better myself by learning how to fly airplanes."
- Bush (1994) About the Vietnam war.

10. The Powell quote should be included in the bodies of "letters...
to the editor" all over this country (since they are so fond of printing statements by republicans)

thanks, buycitgo!

11. good point. but, again, has anyone seen evidence inside the Kerry
campaign that they're using stuff like this?

blm, I think, started an excellent thread, containing lots of questions from a kerry site, regarding AWOL's TANG record.

but they could sure use that Powell quote, as well as the Bush quote I put up here, as well as some others he's made about shirking Vietnam duty...one which I found at an Accuracy in Media page, of all places: something he was quoted as saying at the pug convention in 1988, having to do with quayle.

will see if I can find it
