hey texan parents, 14 adsent days
Edited on Tue Apr-27-04 09:55 PM by seabeyond
at school for my son. he has a fever, again. both boys have been sick all year and pink eye and this and that. oh and have been late well, a few times, but what is a minute here and there. it is three and a day missed.

so here i have a third grader, getting straight a's at 8th grade reading. if i exceed 14 days is the state of texas really going to keep this brilliant child behind?

1. get a doctor note and keep getting their work at school.
I don't think they can do anything about it, the wankers. When you're sick, you're sick.

2. If you have a long stretch of absenses
then you should be able to have home tutoring in lieu of school. Most places have an appeal process for this type of case. By no means should you just give up.

3. medical excuses
are excused. It's 15 unexcused absences that would cause a problem. Even in that case, it's not automatic that a child has to repeat a grade. Each school should have a commitee (usually an offshoot of the campus advisory council or IMPACT team) that decides which kids with chronic attendance problems pass and which fail.

Seems like your kid has very good excuses for being out so I wouldn't worry.

Things in Texas have been bad this year. Lots and lost of nasty illnesses keeping kids out for over a week. I had a period back in February where I had at least 15 absences a day for about 3 weeks.

4. thank you all of you
i was going to ask tomorrow, but i really dont want to send him to school. came home today fever and tummy ache and took a nap, really unusual, and his bday is thurs, lol i want him to be healthy for it.

it has been a tough year. the others havent been like this, last year they had a cold once that was it. now they get a fever, rash, it goes and comes back. it has been bad. nov they had the flu out of denver, they were out a week

we always bring the work home and stay caught up

just didnt make sense to me they would hold him back, though he is young for his class wouldnt hurt, but geez, he would probably be pretty bored doing the year over

thanks. glad to hear they are reasonable, i would expect that, but seems to not be the way things are now a days
