Why should I not vote Republican?
I have my own ideas, but would appreciate expansion.

I think this is your answer.

2. If you're an expansionist as you state, then you should vote rePub.
Perhaps you'd rather just stay the same size after all.

30. You brought it up in THIS forum.
So, if one is fortunate enough to not have to ask, to not vote Republican, what do you think is going on there (or not)?

10. Where to begin
Do you make under $200k/year?
Are you under 45 and a potential draftee
Do you have children that will be left behind?
Do you have children that will suffer under Bush's environmental policies
Do you have children that will continue to fight Bush's wars.

I am the most conservative SOB on the face of the planet, yet, my conscience wont allow me to vote republican this time around.

Think of all the young people you know, then think about them fighting for the bush oil fund.

26. With a few exceptions, most of us here are just patriotic Americans
Patriotic Americans who want what's best for our country. There's a LOT of middle ground there, and there are a lot of open minds here. Some of us really miss the days when there were REAL Republicans and Democrats; you know, folks that disagreed, but were all working in the same direction.

In fact, there are a lot of folks here who have been traditional republicans much of their lives, but have been very disillusioned with what has happened in their party.

You'll probably enjoy the extensive research people here do to debate the topics at hand. I've learned more than I ever dreamed about our history and government in the few years I've been here. It's an amazing place!

Glad you've joined us!

28. If you're conservative, then surely you care about these issues:
The economy is in the toilet. This Administration has taken record surpluses and created a huge debt in only 3 years. They continue to deficit spend needlessly - including increasing funding for building nuclear weapons - all while slashing military and veterans benefits. They have underfunded states, forcing them to raise taxes (were your state taxes higher than ever this year?) because they are masters at passing the buck.

Does this sound fiscally conservative to you?

22. Truthfully
If a family makes 150k+ per year, and has good investments, they are not getting fucked.

Most are not floating around in that boat, though.

23. Because you don't want to die in nuclear winter?
Nah, seriously (god I hope) - here are some reasons off the top of my head -

You should vote for a Democrat if:

You care about and believe in the Constitution of the United States of America.

You care about your civil liberties and enjoy living in a free society.

You feel that women should have the right to make their own decisions about their own bodies, their families, and birth control.

You don't want to be drafted (or your son, cousin, friend, boyfriend, what have you)

You don't want to be blown up by terrorists, encouraged by the growing anti-American sentiment all over the world.

You think that everyone should be able to find employment that wants it and can earn a livable wage.

You think that if you get sick, you should be able to go to the doctor and receive good treatment without selling your house.

You don't think that it's a good idea that the US invades countries, that were not a threat to us, based on lies.

You don't like that your President is a bumbling moron who can't even speak coherently.

24. you might as well! They're gonna win anyway!
How many times have I heard that argument about Kerry's war vote? Here on DU no less.

"Bush was gonna go to war anyway".

It's a matter of principle. Vote Democratic, or write in Santa Clause, or whatever you feel the most strongly about.

25. They put out some McCarthyist ad a few months ago.
The ad said that "some are attacking the President for attacking the terrorists." This is fucking absurd. Oh I'd think there are some out there that are, like the terrorists themselves, so it's technically a true statement. But this ad didn't mention who, so it was meant to stir up general paranoia about people who criticize Bush*. Kind-of like how McCarthy said he had some list of communists but wouldn't tell you who-all was on it - so then everyone becomes a suspect. There's a lot of other propagandistic stuff they and their sattelite organizations have done. Even the moderate John McCain supported this, and I didn't hear anyone say it was bad, so it seems like the whole party.

Shit like this needs to be punished severely. A lesson should be taught to them to serve as an example of what happens when they start messing with the country and the principles it was founded on. The Republican party should become completely irrelevant and voted out of every single office and never win another election again. If another party starts harboring any people holding office under the Republican party now who didn't apologize for this stuff, they should also suffer the same treatment. The Democratic party has already trounced two conservative parties in the past, so it might be good to stick a fork in this one too.

29. Well, what do the Republicans stand for? What do they do for you?
Nothing. Not a god damned thing.

If you want to help a bunch of inherited-wealth, selfish, lying, hypocritical motherfuckers give themselves more money while looting the country and sending your quality of life down the shitter, then by all means, vote Republican.

Have fun.

Just realize that most Republicans don't give a shit about anything but themselves.
