1. No way. Toomey could not have won PA in a presidential election year
it leans, even if it's only slightly, to the left. Hoeffell is now a sacrificial lamb.

4. not happy, but
while i knew toomey could make it easier for democrats to win. i don't have enough faith in the state to vote against toomey for being right wing since they did elect santorum. this is why i kind of wanted specter to win, but i wouldn't call it "happy".

term. He is setting the stage for 2008 run for President to get the base excited about him. Al Gore won Penn the same year Santorum was reelected- so many voters did not know Santorum was as conservative as they know now.
On edit: no not at all.

5. I voted yes because ..............
if Toomy won it would mean the Extreme Right was VERY mobilized to get out and vote. That's a bad thing!

If Specter wins in Nov., he's certainly not as bad as having Toomy in the Senate!

I don't think this was a vote for a Pub over the Dem. Remember, people in Pa can only vote in the party where they are registered, so this was an indication that the Extremes are not the mojority in that State.

11. There were a ton of Dems who switched over to vote for Toomey.
I was going to do it as well but Specter opened a 15 point lead, by the time it closed again it was too late to switch.

6. Ultimately- yeah.
I understand the argument with the radical right-winger being easier to beat, but let's play it conservative. Specter is going to work better with the Democrats than a RWer would, and we still have a chance of beating him.

I think, if you're playing the percentages, this is a good thing.

7. Yes, I am
Months of Toomey campaigning in PA to get out the wacko right wingers would not be good for Dems.

9. Yes
It shows that the RadCons couldn't mobilize well enough to defeat someone they've been targeting forever and raised a ton of money to defeat. It probably means Specter will hold the seat in the fall, but it bodes well for the Dems carrying the state for president.

13. No - Bush supported Specter
Campaigned for him and appeared in political ads for him, saying that voting for Specter will help Bush keep the White House.

Plus, I think that Toomey was an easier candidate to run against.

15. Any chance of Tooms running an indy bid?
I'd dearly love to see him splitting the GOP vote like that in November.

16. The other thing is that Specter
has already been losing power in the Senate because the Repukes thought they were going to replace him with one of their neo-cons. They've been abusing him, but this will return his power as a moderate, from now until the election, to him, and he's also been further alienated from them by their attacks.

17. Yes...
the neo-cons hate Spector. Spector is on the Judiciary committee and has managed to hold up the worst of chimpy's wacko nominees, which is something at least.
