Imus had Chris Dodd on and went after Robert Byrd. Media Alert. |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 07:14 AM by KoKo01
Imus must have had his Repug Talking points given to him this a.m., because he had Dodd on talking about Iraq and our policy and then turns to robert Byrd and brings up that Dodd was criticized for praising Byrd when Byrd was a Klan Member. And that Trent Lott had to resign for praising Strom Thurmond.
Imus goes on to say, "well they say people can change but if a person was "that way" back then and has in in their heart to be racist can we expect them to change...I guess you can say if society changes a person has to, but can you believe that they really do." While Imus is speaking MSNBC puts a photo of Sen. Byrd is up on the screen just to remind viewers of who Byrd is.
Dodd goes on to say that Sen. Byrd has apologized over and over and has an excellent voting record on civil rights, and Imus says, "Well I'm not buying that."
So, who is "running" Imus? Why should Imus give a damn about Robert Byrd? And why are they still after Byrd? They are after him because we Democrats love the guy. Or at least we "Anti-Iraq Invasions folks" do.
This was a personal slam and means the Repugs are not going to give up until they bring Byrd down and so they plant their talking points with their buddies.

1. Not as bad as yesterday |
|
When Imus was off sick and Charles did an interview with "Mo-Joe"...I thought I was at a right wing barn dance at a pig farm in Texas.
I try to be fair with Charles because he did go to high school with Ashcroft. Not his fault where his parents lived I guess..hehehe
Thinks Zell Miller is "A Great American Hero", among other things.
Only redeeming thing I can come up with about Charles is that he is a Cardinal fan. So therefore he can't be all bad.

Byrd's record speaks for itself. Imus is obnoxiously promoting his wifes book, and Charles thinks he is far more intelligent than he is. I don't even bother to watch anymore. I listen to much more interesting shows in the AM now.

2. Imus is like Frank on "The King of Queens". |
|
You never know what he is going to say. He is like the wind in New Mexico. He just blows; you never know the direction ahead of time.

4. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Imus |
|
a shock jock like Howard Stern? Didn't he use to be a drug addict and alcoholic? Has he not changed? A lot of people believe that addicts and/or alcoholics cannot change either.
I've always been amazed at how Imus as well as Stern are able to get guests on their shows period. Well, as long as stern can get a woman willing to expose herself, then he has a great show (according to Stern that is). Don Imus is trying to come across as a journalist; however, he is nothing more than another Bubba the Love Sponge.

5. Only a few Democrats remain in Bush's* way... |
|
...and Byrd is one of them.
- It's interesting that Republicans can use someone's past to smear them...but it's 'partisan politics' when a Democrat does the same thing.
- Democrats just DON'T GET IT. There really IS a 'vast right wing conspiracy'...and scores of talking head pundits and 'journalists' who repeat right wing talking points when they're so instructed.

7. Trent Lott had to resign for praising Strom Thurmond. |
|
No, Lott had to resign because he said that we would have been better off if Thurmond had defeated Truman and become president. Thurmond's "dixiecrats" broke away from the democratic party mainly because they opposed Truman's attempts at ending segregation in the army.

10. Voting records are all that count |
|
I like Senator Byrd and yes, I do believe people can change and I believe he has changed; however, I don't care if the guy burns crosses on his own lawn for fun, it is his voting record that counts. And his civil rights record is terrific.
Same argument I used to make about Clinton when people said he didn't respect women because he was a womanizer. Since I wasn't married to him, and I didn't plan on sleeping with him, the only thing that mattered was his position on women's rights.

11. Imus also ripped J.D. Hayworth's head off this morning |
|
It wasn't just belligerent banter, either, calling each other "pal". If they had been in the same room, one of them would have been on the floor. Imus told Hayworth he should be ashamed of himself, who had never served, for smearing Kerry about his medals when "his guy" never even showed up. Imus asked him if he was embarrassed that Bush wasn't man enough to testify before the 9/11 committee without "Lamb Chop."
