Rub CNN's nose in it!! They try to be like Fox but are losing BIG
Yahoo has the story
FOX News Channel Beats CNN and MSNBC Combined in April
http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/040427/275996_1.html

CNN's bias to the right is such a wrong programming decision. They are trying so hard to get the GOP viewership and they are losing. The article states April's losers included CNN's much hyped Paula Zahn Now and Wolf Blitzer Live, down 72% and 65% respectively from Apr. '03. Of course these are loser shows, they all lean right but the rabid right is watching Fox. Everyone else changes the channel.

Email CNN and rub their noses in it. Let them know that there is a big untapped market out here which would love to have a news show to watch which does not have a right-wing bias.

7. Wolfie & Zahn are awful right-wing shows. CNN should be told we don't want
that right-wing garbage. Whether the ratings are true or not, I believe the article can be used as a tool to prod CNN to move away from the right.

Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 08:15 AM by DoYouEverWonder
I use to watch CNN all the time. Now, I flip through the channels at the end of the day and that's about it.

Even on the Internet, I will only go to CNN International because I don't want to put up with their pop-ups on every click.

4. refuse to watch Paula Zahn
since her interview with Scott Ritter before the war. Paula sneering "are you actually saying Saddam has no more weapons"? Then an incredulous giggle, and more sneering "how can you possibly propose such a thing"? Hey Paula, have you APOLOGIZED to Scott Ritter yet?

26. She's probably going to apologize to him as soon as she apologizes
to that man who was one of the first to lose his son - his ONLY son - in Iraq, about a year ago. He's the guy (I am dreadfully sorry to have forgotten his name) who held up his son's photo and declared that he wanted george bush to look at that photo and understand his loss and his grief and know that he caused it. Paula Zahn (the woman with no heart, soul, or conscience, but she certainly photographs well!) went on the air with him, in an interview, and lambasted him for badmouthing Our President, and demanded that he back down. HORRIBLE. DISGRACEFUL. UNCONSCIONABLE. I never did like her all that much. Never did understand what the appeal was - even when she was on the air locally, here in L.A. Never saw it then, either. But from that sordid moment on, I have hated her guts. She's an embarrassment to the once-noble profession of journalism. She should never have left the Pox network. They're made for each other. But then again, she photographs well.

6. Cable Network Hiring standards must be very low
this all appears very insignificant. I noticed the viewership numbers ranged from about 1.3 to 2.2 million viewers. In a country of 300 million people, that is really a tiny audience. Let's be glad cable news hasn't caught on to the general public yet.

10. Here is what I sent:
I see that Fox has once again trounced CNN in the ratings.

I realize that CNN has been trying to catch Fox in the ratings by being more like Fox (conservatively biased).

May I suggest something else?

Conservatives are never going to stop watching Fox to watch CNN instead. They have already written CNN off. They call you the liberal media, the Clinton News Network, etc. They are Fox brand loyal FOREVER. These people are probably 30% of viewership.

So, who's left? The 30% of viewership that are liberals and the 40% of viewership that are independents.

You should go after that 70% instead of feebly trying to be Foxish and go after that 30% that will never leave Fox.

70% of the nation is thirsty for a cable news network without a conservative bias.

How about instead of trying to be like Fox, you try to be independent like you once were? Then you will be able to recapture the people like me who have left CNN because I don't want to be fed right-wing propaganda from people like Wolf Blitzer and Paula Zahn.

I really, truly hope you consider this.

It gave me the idea to send CNN another email. They gave a lot of time to Karen Hughes yesterday and her pro-abortion stance and gave the rally of a million people two minutes.

It has been three days and I am still steaming about the non-coverage of the rally.

33. I don't watch CNN anymore
I can't stand Crossfire anymore. Judy Woodruff is not good for my blood pressure and I fear for my TV when Blitzer is on. I did watch Kerry and Tweety last night when I got the heads-up here. That was worth a tune-in. Since I'm not keeping tabs on them I can't comment. I sent e-mails up the wazoo before I decided to push the buttons and change the channel.

MSRNC isn't much better but at least they have Olbermann. I get my news from the net.

18. Here's my contribution:
After getting trounced in the ratings by Fox, maybe CNN will learn that the country will only support one right wing network at a time. CNN's effort to move to the right of Fox (with such RNC puffers as Zahn, Blitzer, and Crowley to name a few) has failed miserably. Lying about Letterman for Bush really helped your credibility too, right? That incident pretty much finished CNN for me. I am no longer a regular viewer.

Perhaps the geniuses at CNN will rethink the lurch to the right and start airing the TRUTH for a change? Let Fox handle the RNC talking points. At least 40% of the viewing public can't stand Fox and crave a real alternative. Get them one and your ratings won't be so pathetic plus you'll have your dignity back. One can only hope.

http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/040427/275996_1.html

"FOX News Channel Beats CNN and MSNBC Combined in April"

Why do you think this happened? I know why it happened. CNN no longer has journalistic integrity. Fox is dominating the right winger market. You guys are trying to take a chunk of that which is a dumb move. Try to run the place more like CNN International or BBC. They still have some integrity.

You will continue to get trounced as long as you act like a right wing mouth piece and not journalists.

Here is where you should start: Fire Paula Zahn (lame), Wolf Blitzer and Judy Woodruff (both are has beens).

Thanks for nothing of value, Bleachers7

28. Both good letters of support amBushed and Bleachers
CNN needs to be made aware that taking Zahn away from Fox didn't give them Fox viewers and are driving away the rest of us.

Their paychecks are in their ratings, and yes this news item skews things a bit, but people who buy commercial airtime also read these articles. If CNN wants to pick up viewers, they need to stop pushing us away.

22. It could also be that this is also partially because
people are turning OFF the Paula Zahns and Wolf Blitzers because of their biased coverage. I wonder if CNN campaigns like ours may be having a small impact in that.

Frankly, if you really want right-wing bias, you can get it much more blatantly and satisfyingly from the Pox network than from the wannabes at CNN. Go for Pox instead of second-best Pox-Lite.

At any rate, this is only part of the story. F.A.I.R. did a report on real viewership and Pox's figures are overinflated and overrated.

They haven't changed at all. The network used to happily promote SDI, whitewash Ollie North and Dan Quayle, and weasel the GOP agenda into our homes all sorts of ways. It's just that others have done more with less since then.

So really, I won't bother. CNN is a leopard that has never, nor will ever, change its spots.

..and I've e-mailed them on it many times: every time they put up a poll it's like swamped with "left/Democratic/liberal" responses. God, even last night CNBC had the same results and MSNBC always have these type of results. BUT the sons of bitches turn around and keep pushing the goddamn right wing propaganda over and over. Can't anyone at those moron places figure out that they have a huge audience there, cater to it and stop trying to pick up Fox's crumbs??? Think the bottom line is that these corporations gave them the mission to wash our minds and they don't care if it's a losing proposition. The more they see the poll results, the harder they try to convince us that "Bush is our man"........a real corporation would fire anyone making these kind of decisions.

34. Ha! Vindication!
My last nastygram to CNN specifically referred to their democraphics and the need to shift their focus. Maybe now they'll think about it.....

CNN - Demographically, CNN needs to remember that the MAJORITY of voting Americans did NOT select G.W. Bush as their President. That majority of the discontented has grown extensively and continues to do so as the lies, ineptitude and corporate favoritism of the current Administration becomes more and more obvious, Iraq decays into a quagmire and the deficit/economic hardships explode. When you give extensive coverage to a man that many consider a foolish, unintelligent imposter and puppet, thousands upon thousands of viewers are switching to other channels! If you're concerned about your ratings (and profits) you'll stop pandering to an Administration that is hated and reviled throughout the world. It's time to back away from the losing team if you expect to retain your place in the ranks of "news" providers rather than become just another convenient mechanism in their propaganda machine. The viewers of America are waking up.....it's time for CNN to follow the trend!

39. I threw it in, for both of us, in my email to them.
Here's what I just sent 'em:

I hope you realize what the latest ratings - showing Paula Zahn and Wolf Blitzer DOWN from last year - are trying to tell you:

The Fox network has already won the hearts and minds of the right-wing. They won't bother with you as you try to become "Fox-Lite" when they can have the real thing.

What you are ignoring is the larger audience that DOES NOT agree with OR appreciate the shameless bias of the Fox network. I WANT TO SEE THE WHITE HOUSE HELD ACCOUNTABLE, NOT GIVEN A NON-STOP FREE PASS.

And please remember: A majority of Americans didn't even vote for bush. He lost the popular vote by more than half-a-million. That's an audience ripe for the picking, which might bring your numbers back up. Fox certainly isn't trying to go after them. Why don't you?

38. That's What I've Been Saying For 3 Years!
Fox took the audience on the right, big time. The dumbasses who ran CNN and MSNBC, then took a right turn. But, that horse had already left the barn. They targeted a niche audience that had already developed brand loyalty.

Anyone with an ounce of business sense would have realized that the money was going to be in the alternative. They didn't have to broadcast the news like wild-eyed communists or anarchists, but taking a right turn was a momumentally stupid business move.

This guy has it right, and unlike me, his opinions are published.
