The Republican Party was brilliant under Reagan, and Rove owes much of his success to the groundwork of his predecessors. Under Reagan, the Republicans launched a racist campaign and a campaign that provides moral cover for selfish people. So, today's Republican party can count among its base diehard racists, homophobes, and cheapskates.

If the Democrats are not willing to call the Republicans on their bigotry and selfishness, then they should play by the same cynical rules that the Republicans play by. What sleazy groups can the Democrats woo? I think pornography fans are key. There's a good chance that many pornography fans are repressed conservatives, who would secretly vote Democrat if they thought they would be denied their vice.
