10. $2000 - $14,000 suits
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 09:47 AM by Tinoire

Bush's Suits Cost $2,000 to $14,000. I doubt that little shit is getting the cheaper end.

Stitch in time produces new classic
Chicago Sun Times

by Lisa Lenoir
http://www.oxxfordclothes.com/suntimes.asp

President George W. Bush steps into the spotlight looking like a man fresh off the pages of GQ magazine. His black cashmere overcoat delicately drapes his shoulders, the blue stripe tie radiates against his white shirt and the suit perfectly fits his fit form. What a contrast after seeing Bush's hokey business and Western attire on the campaign trail. The 10-gallon hats and cowboy boots caused many fashion watchers to shake in their boots. But Bush's past style lapses are forgivable because, since his inauguration he's been wearing some of the best tailored garments -- Oxxford suits.

The Chicago-based Oxxford Clothes is the gentlemen's club for the well-dressed. In the summer issue of Forbes' FYI magazine, Oxxford was appointed the best suit to own in the list of "50 of America's Best." The article touted the fact that the suits are still made by hand entirely in Chicago and that pattern pieces are individually cut from one piece of fabric.

<snip>

When brothers Louis and Jacob Weinberg founded the company in 1916, they were determined to make the best suit. They used the finest fabrics and designed only simple, timeless shapes. This guiding principle ensures Oxxford continues to create topnotch garments for a price --$2,000 to $14,000 --that loyal customers are willing to pay. Oxxford produced 25,000 handmade garments and had $30 million in sales last year, according to Roger Parfitt, the company's chief operating officer.

13. I tell you, this is good news
When the Repugs start slamming no-substance garbage like this, it tells you how empty their arsenal is. They can't get anywhere on the military service issue because Shrub has none to speak of, so they hit this.

Sit back, laugh and enjoy. :)

To me, it would only be "rubbing it in my face" if he openly boasted about having so much money that a $1,000 haircut was reasonable to him, or something like that.

This is a media age. If a candidate spends $1,000 to get a haircut and I spend $20 then I and most other voters will be a bit miffed.

59. Kerry isn't going to change who he is for PR purposes as Bush does
kerry has access to wealth. his wife buys things for him. he knows he is priveledged and that others don'thave the things he does. but he wants to try to help them. bush on the other hand tries to act like he is some regular guy when in reality he got by in life because of money . his dad and his dad's friensd always bailed him out of his failures. so bush puts on the regular guy act while he supports policies which hurt most americans.

i would rather kerry be who he is than put on some act trying to act like he is just like everyone else. i like it that he acknowledges that he has help that most americans don't. that when he went to vietnam most people there did not come from the same place he did. they did not have the opportunities kerry had. so he wants to help others. those who hate kerry for what he has are those who already hate him and these are the same people who try to make bush out to be a regular guy. these are the same people who call kerry a coward and bush a war hero.

when kerry came to la and met with grocery workers on strike, they loved him because they saw he listened to them and understood their problems and offered ways to help them. they don't care about the cost of his haircuts or clothes or other things. they cared more that he offered solutions for them .

i'm nothing like john kerry in the way we grew up or our backgrounds such as race, religion, etc. but i am very much with him when it comes to the issues and that is what matters to me. i like it that he is willing to listen to those who did not grow up as he did and try to understand them. reagan grew up poor but was a total asshole and attacked those who had the least power and needed the most help as being the cause of problems.

Silly Logic...

Remember all the crap President Clinton took about having a haircut on Air Force One in California, making other jets wait to take off? That dominated the news for WEEKS. Then, it turns out that the whole story was fake. How do we know this one is real? And who the fuck cares? I'm worried about privacy being eroded, the battering the Constitution is taking, air and water pollution increasing, and, oh yes, that little matter of thousands of people dying because Bush* lied.

spending it on a TV appearance. A lot of folks are seeing Kerry for the first time. $1,000 is cheap to avoid the bad first impressions Kerry could create by going on National TV looking shaggy.

It's true he could get a local person to do a touch-up. But look what trouble Jerry Sienfeld when he tried that. :smoke:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, April 27 — The man who would be president takes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches — on whole wheat, strawberry jelly preferred to grape — twice a day on the campaign trail. He wears $15 reading glasses, off the rack at CVS. Before bedtime, he starts but rarely finishes movies like "Seabiscuit" and "The Blues Brothers" in his hotel suite. Come morning, he leaves $20 for the maid.

HA! How much does it cost this Nation every time george holds his "secret Saudi" meet-ups in Crawdad Texas?
Isn't Camp David good enough? Not "secret" enough?

I'd say Kerry deserves anything he wants, afterall Kerry bravely put his life on the line for this country, and to free the Vietnamese people from a dangerous government, just like Sadaam and the Iraqis.

george LIED to the American gov't about where he was. He hid like a coward.
A true PATRIOT, John Kerry can spend his well deserved earnings anyway he likes.

If it were a Hollywood photo shoot that was being done, nobody would mind that a rich man paid airfare for an employee. This is BS.

Enron plane for Bush's inauguration? (Or was that for the campaign?)

Air Force Two for Cheney/Scalia duck hunt?

Air Force One for Bush photo ops/fundraisers?

Jets scrambled when a plane got into Crawford air space (but they couldn't do it on 9/11)?

Bush's ambling all over the U.S. map on 9/11?

The cost of flying Bush's 700-person entourage to England?

It is to laugh.

Looks like a small animal crawled up on Bremer's head and died

20. Come on people! The only source cited is . . .
Freakin' DRUDGE. And he just says "insiders". This has as much credibility as his story of Kerry having an affair with a young lady that then ran to Africa.

43. The Trickle Down Affect????
I thought this was the whole idea of Georgie and the Neocon's. You give big tax breaks to the Millionaires and they in turn spend it with the working class.......thus more jobs: The barber, the flight attendents, pilots, taxi-cab drivers, etc.

The Neocon's can't have it both ways either John Kerry is boosting the economy from the hefty tax-break he received under Georgie's rule or he wastes his money???????

46. This is just another indication
That Kerry is a loser.

We ought to chunk him at the convention. We need to drag Dean or Wesley Clark or well my neighbors dog out instead. The Republican smear machine will not try to rip them apart. No, if we had another candidate, the world would be roses and cream and all would be right again.

In fact, Kerry is such a PNAC, Bush-lite loser we should just take him out back of the Village Voice office and let Ridgeway execute him. First against the wall when the Revolution comes and all that. Yeah that is what we should do.

Ok, sarcasm time over. If this is the best they got, they are truly running scared.

68. Let's assume this story is true.
He really didn't pay $1,000 for the haircut itself. He paid $1,000 to occupy the hairdresser's time for most of the day.

You know, I don't go to any kind of fancy hairstylist, but when I go in, every twelve weeks, for a cut, color and highlights, my tab is at least $250, and that's before tip. No kidding. The process takes about 2 and a half hours, and what you're really paying for is the time and labor. I'm sure some DUers will now enjoy jumping on my little hair habit, but I do have to admit, it makes me look fabulous, and I enjoy it. :D So nyah.

Yes, I think $1,000 is a large amount to pay for a haircut, but it's really not out of the realm of possibility. He's a wealthy man, and he employs a fancy-pants hairstylist. I think I read recently that Jennifer Lopez pays her makeup artist $4,000 per day to make her look fantastic.

What I'm really trying to say here is that I could honestly give a fuck about the kind of money John Kerry throws around. $1,000 doesn't piss me off nearly as much as 700+ dead American soldiers.

73. I bow before your reason
And your fabulous hair. ;-)

Makes you wonder why Bush doesn't sufficiently piss off some people on here as much as Kerry does. As if saying "I am voting for him" redeems the curious absence of any Bush criticism. Just sayin'. :-)

It's just silly, this whole haircut crap. What the hell is wrong with looking good???

Honestly, before Kerry hired his latest hairstylist, his hair was hurtin'...

Hate the game, not the player. No, I am not shallow. Just realistic.

80. he has nice hair
he has naturally nice hair in that it's thick and he has a lot of it. but he needs a stylist to keep it from getting too big and poufy. while it was ok when he was younger and just senator to have the big hair, when running for president he needs to look more "clean cut".

..these people are hypocritical morons, plain and simple. I'm sure they don't mind how Bush or Cheney made their money and how they spend it. I bet they get mad and defensive when people complain about Tyco's Dennis Kozlowski's $6000 shower curtains and $2 000 000 toga party.
