ExxonMobil's Attack on Greenpeace

http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?itemid=16834

-snip-

ExxonMobil, the largest, most-polluting conglomerate on the globe, has long used its tiger logo to promote its gasoline, urging you to "Put a tiger in your tank." But now the tiger wants to put you in the tank, attempting to jail anyone who dares to protest ExxonMobil's polluting ways.

-snip-

The tiger turned 'fraidy cat recently, when Greenpeace and other environmental groups began to confront its multimillion-dollar campaign of deceit and distortions on the issue of global warming. ExxonMobil has waged corporate war against any hint that global warming is a problem. It paid shady scientists to write reports debunking climate change, it ran ads asserting that those who want to stop the emissions are anti-growth quacks, it sent a secret memo to George W demanding that he get rid of an international climate-control expert who was not toeing the corporate line -- which Bush did.

So, Greenpeace launched a worldwide boycott and showed up at corporate headquarters in Dallas dressed in tiger costumes, declaring the place a "global warming crime scene." Showing no sense of humor or propriety, the corporation called in the cops to pepper spray, arrest, and lock up the peaceful protesters, charging them with "organized criminal activity."

Then the tiger dashed to court, getting a compliant Texas judge to impose an injunction against any Greenpeace actions at any of Exxon's facilities anywhere in the USA -- an unprecedented, iron-fisted, corporate and judicial assault on America's right to peaceful protest.

it's hard work bringing down a criminal corporation and I have high praise for Greenpeace

1. Suggested reading
I recently read a very good book regarding corporations use of PR and PR firms to spin the message. It's called "Toxic Sludge is Good For You" Order at your local library or better yet buy a copy. Very interesting.

2. Read _Toxic Sludge is Good For You_
It's all about manipulation by PR and advertising firms. Very eye-opening. There is also a documentary of the same name on Free Speech TV.

We're headed for a revolution folks, complete with armed citizens in the streets and government stormtroopers shooting innocent people.

Protest with your dollars--don't buy their products. Bastards.

RV

PS--I love Greenpeace too. They fight the good fight.

3. I know one of those arrested.
The case is coming up and they are facing felony charges. In addition none of them can participate with GreenPeace anywhere. $100,000s are having to be spent to defend the 40+ arrested and fight ExxonMobile. This is a very important case.

(I was invited to be part of action, was working at the time and could not take 10 days off to be a part of, also, when asked, I was not told of what the action would be.)
