"defensive responses"?????
"What's going on are some terrorists and regime elements have been attacking our forces, and our forces have been going in and killing them," Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld testily told reporters after briefing lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

"Despite three straight days of battles and nighttime attacks that produced dramatic TV video, U.S. officials said they were pushing ahead with negotiations to resolve the standoff rather than launch an all-out offensive."

"Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt said the cease-fire was continuing and Marines were not taking offensive actions but were "in a series of defensive responses" to the insurgents."

Orwell's nightmare is here.. "cease-fire was continuing" (three straight days of battles, AC-130 gunships and smart bombs means the "cease fire" is continuing?)

we're surrounding a city and blasting it to hell and that's not offense, it's DEFENSE??!??!!!!!

Kerry better get us the hell out of there. Let the UN take complete control, who gives a damn if Iraq becomes another Iran.. an Islamic state. Forget this fantasy of an Iraq American-style democracy. Just get the hell out and contain the inevitable fallout from the outside.. (like we were doing with Saddam before this Bush fiasco)

shit..

4. But Bush isn't Hitler
... until his regime kills 11,000,000 people in concentration camps. Only then would we be permitted to make the comparison. (Besides, you really can't compare reading "The Very Hungry Caterpiller" to writing "Mein Kampf.")

3. "Protective Reaction Strike"
During Vietnam, VC and NVA troops would take pot shots at passing helicopters, provoking massive artillery responses. They quickly learned to use 1-2 men near villages and towns that were 'Pro-US' to snipe at helicopters, as the massive response (newspeak "Protective Reaction Strike") would hit the village, which would cause villagers to switch sides (would you side with the guys who just blew your home up?).
