He just categorically stated, AGAIN, the lie that Spain elected a new Gov't and pulled out of Iraq BECAUSE of the Madrid bombings.

The truth, of course, is that the Spanish people threw out a Government that had LIED to them about who was behind the attacks.

Not only that it is complete BS (Blitzer: learn reading polls, it was a close race even before the attacks), but it is irresponsible BS.

For a pretty easy reason: the investigation seems to show that the terrorists weren't targeting the elections at all - the date was because of the 911 link (number of days, appearance of date).
Now the media practically begs for future elections to be targeted by terrorists.


Small rant: why do we (Europeans) hear about the 9/11 victims every time someone makes remarks about Bush's warmongering, usually with a comment about the European anti-Americanism.
But for the US media the Spanish victims are irrelevant, their memory no reason for more considerate formulations.

Aznar was lying his ass off about the Madrid bombings AFTER it had been shown to be an Al Queda operation.

The Spanish voters registered their displeasure at their government's deceit and dishonesty.
Bush and his cronies ought to learn from the experience.


A member of my family (through marriage) is Spanish. He is sputtering mad about these characterizations.

I don't know why Spain would ever EVER lift a finger to help the U.S. again.
