Should Democrats keep the "Kerry ribbons" story alive ??
Or ignore it and hope it dies?
Should they take advantage of the opportunity to define the "chickenhawks" that hid under Mama's skirts when their nation called? Since the Repubs started this with the intention of negatively defining John Kerry, should Kerry now finish what they started. "Let's talk about VietNam and the ribbons I won", he could say.

"While I was fighting for this country, George Jr was using his Daddy's connection to jump the line and get in the Texas Air National Guard. In fact, he checked that he did not wish to go overseas. As for Dick Cheney, let's just say he got a deferment more than a couple of times to stay out of the service altogether. Now they feel they have the right to criticize me and what I did with my ribbons that I won defending this country...They are beyond ridiculous..."
==================================================================
Check out the media "attitude" toward Republicans in this exchange between Judy Woodruff and General Wesley Clark. It never crosses their minds that it might be the Repubs that are in the wrong and need to retreat on this issue. Kerry should keep it alive as long as possible, in my opinion.
=========================================
<snip>
CLARK: I don't think John Kerry has been goaded into this debate. He has a great deal of pride in his service, and I think Americans should share some of that pride. He served in Vietnam honorably and heroically. He did his duty, he protested. That was also part of his duty, as he saw it! I think it's a great record of achievement, and he has every right to be angry about the way the attack machine is trying to smear him, and I think he should defend himself. I think the people who need to be called off are the Republican attack dogs.

WOODRUFF: So you don't think he's doing himself harm by continuing to respond to all of this? (???!!!???!!!!??)

1. Yes. The Rethugs got their asses kicked, and cried "Uncle!".
Kerry should remain above the fray, but his surrogates should beat Smirk and Sneer and the rest of the GodAwfuls till they cry for mercy.

4. Agreed
This whole attempt at scandal blew up in their chickenshit faces. They have since backed away from this story so fast their combovers have nearly strangled them.

Keep it alive. Show these hypocrites for what they are.

5. They cried uncle, that's right
It would be nice if we'd all run around the internet and claim the victory. Work together for a change.

Just a thought. Am I dreaming?

3. Yep
Kerry can't continue to play defense until November. More and more, I hear people say that even though Bush is bad, they don't know enough about Kerry to say that he is better.

6. The R's now know what happens when they try to ambush Kerry -
kind of like the Vietcong when he turned the fast boat directly at the snipers and took them down.

I'm going to buy a ton of Purple Heart stamps - it can't hurt to put that image out there and honor all the PH recipients in our midst.

The RNC has definitely nailed down (for the last two weeks) Kerry's connection to the Purple Heart.

Thanks Racicot and all you other chickenhawks - it only makes our man gain in stature.

Here's the postage stamp:

9. I am!
I can't stand his little elfin grin as he explains what The Voters are Thinking. When the 2000 election was close, he claimed it was because The Voters weren't sure what They wanted. I was sure of what I wanted, and it sure wasn't this fraudulent Chimp!! I think we're split, not "unsure." He's so off base.

10. It Should Be Used, My Bluegrass Friend
To continue driving home the cowardice and hypocrisy of the criminals of the '00 Coup, who to a man evaded service to their country in time of war, while striking patriotic postures then, and now. It connects to the most basic theme that will lead the people to despise them, the abuse of privilege.

"People getting their fundamental interests wrong is what American political life is all about."

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

12. he must see the OPPROTUNITY in EVERYTHING they put on the table

and POUNCE on it!

lets face it... they have a LOT of power in setting the media table and we IGNORE that at our peril, imho, so lets work with it...

i say, keep it SIMPLE, but he needs a 'COMBINATION PUNCH'

have TONS of NEGITIVE ONE LINERS - will pitt - on hand for the largely PREDICTABLE ATTACKS - that wont stop even AFTER election day - and 'JAB' right back with one of them. but WASTE NO TIME getting in a 'HARD RIGHT CROSS' with a good speal about how HE is GONNA MAKE IT BETTER. and REPEAT, fast and furious, as the media format, DICTATES.

don't spend anymore time than a ONE LINER on WHATEVER the negative charge maybe - he will need the other ones in the follow up questions anyways - because you will only win if you give the people HOPE in the FUTURE - he should invite clinton to move in ;->

he should keep in mind to always answer the question he wish he was asked when they get negative :evilgrin:

:shrug:

peace
