1. White woman in photo.... |
|
reminds me of Selma, Alabama white women who stood along side of the roads blocking, insulting, throwing stones at black young students on their way to the University. KKK is well and alive in Florida.

5. Am I missing something here? |
|
People were happy with the old name and didn't want it changed and they are compared to stone throwers and the KKK?

of those white Bostonians who were still throwing rocks and insults at black schoolchildren years after most other cities in America had integrated.

3. There is only one answer for this... |

 Except King would not approve, not in the slightest. Nor would I, ditto.
But this is not a rational world, not in the slightest. :-(
Hell, even the gay rights movement wouldn't have started if it wasn't for Stonewall...
Their action speaks volumes. And I'm disgusted with them for taking down the sign.
It's almost poignant. 6th st. became King but back again. But you'd have to watch "The Prisoner" to get the semi-reference.
Blacks have come a long way. But it's starting to look as if they were tied to a bungee cord. :-(
"Sixth street". :puke:
But I disagree with the article, I think it transcends "racial" lines. I'm white and I'm outraged by the sign's removal. (Besides, we're all human - the use of "race" makes it seem otherwise.)

My daughter lives in Fla. due to her job. Last month, she went to the hospital, emergency. She was made to sit for 4 hours while having a miscarriage. She asked to be seen immediately, she was bleeding and having contractions. They told her, you got to wait your turn. Her husband rushed her to another hospital but on their way, my daughter got worse and went into shock. Her husband called the ambulance and she ended up in the hospital for two day, plus she lost her first baby. We contacted a lawyer but he said, the hospital was not braking any rules. Florida has barbaric hospital rules.

7. My apology for Florida |
|
there are many here that don't judge by the skin color. The hardest thing is, in the rural areas no one can get beyond the stereotypes. I can't blame it on the current administration of the state, but I do think the lack of living wages has a lot to do with how the country bumpkins look at what is going on. Sheesh, when 7.50 an hour is a "good wage", something is wrong.
that womyn in the photograph probably is a yankmee that has a 500,000 home on where else but Martin Luther King Blvd, and her northern friends wouldn't understand she lives on a road that so often goes thru the nastiest parts of cities, nationwide.
I've always thought it was an insult to what Dr. King preached to have a street named in his honor going thru the worst part of anytown usa. His words were a message of hope.

...yet nobody has questioned naming the Florida Turnpike after Ronald Reagan...the signs along the way "credit" the Florida legislature.
