One Nation, Under God...
Should we make a whole lotta noise about this now to get out the atheist vote for November or lay low to keep the holy in their grail?

1. First they came for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.

by Rev. Martin Niemoller, 1945

4. You left out the gun owners. What about the gun owners?
The UK and Australia finally disarmed their citizens...how long before the US follows suit?

to the Second Amendment?

12. Oh Bullshit
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 10:24 PM by RationalRose
Obviously, you can't discern between discrimination based on RACE AND RELIGION vs. a CHOICE to bear arms. I am a gun-owning liberal and I have no fear of someone taking away my rights. Do not try to draw parallels between the incidiousness of genocide from racial hatred and ability to own guns. It's stupid and weakens your argument.

I will follow your dictate to not draw such parallels. Thank you Sir for your wisdom and dictate!

Try harder. Think before you post.

it's just no fun arguing with unarmed dolts as witnessed on many threads this evening.

Even the attempts at humor are lame and tiresome. :boring:

I want to be entertained, dammit! Should I post a complaint on Free Republic?

20. Me too.
The smarter ones (say, IQ between fifty and sixty) all realized that it's impossible to disrupt this board.

The dumb ones still show up repeatedly, like the goldfish swimming around in a bowl and not realizing it was in the same place a second ago.

22. It's like killing cockroaches with a .357
what's the point?

They aren't even good at sarcasm. I'm going to start taking bets again on how long they last. It seems lately 20-25 posts before they get nuked. Except for the longtime trolls that fly under the radar-and we KNOW who they are! ;-)

Yeah, these guys must be the ones who qualified for "Group B", if you know what I mean.

The only entertainment you can get from them is the thought that they will come on board, post the lamest garbage anyones ever seen, and still go and boast to their FRiends about how they really taught us a lesson. I find that pretty funny.

how the Australian population has been disarmed.

This guy must be as soft as his name suggests. Whatza matter mate, got some facts in your way or something? Ever been to Australia? Ever been to the UK?

We're not completely disarmed, you just don't see it on the streets and they are rarely used for the purposes of settling arguments.

I can still buy a Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum if I want (oh, except the Mrs won't let me :-) )

most atheists are voting against Bush anyway. this issue isn't exactly pinnacle in their minds at this point. I don't mean to speak for the atheists or anything, its just that I don't personally see any reason why an atheist would vote for Bush in the first place.

and, im rather suspicious of your motivations.

6. Allen Greenspan is an Ayn Rand Objectivist Atheist
Even used to write for the magazine The Objectivist. The Economic Conservatives are quite full of Rand style atheists.

23. This has NOTHING to do with atheism; it's a matter of respect ....
... respect for the Pledge as it was originally written in 1892. And since the author was an ordained Baptist minister, he was not likely to have left out "under God" by inadvertance. That extra phrase was added in 1954, at the instigation of the Knights of Columbus. It was one of the relatively un-malign artefacts of the McCarthy era.

Where I generally encounter that Pledge, is at union meetings. There, I repeat the word "indivisible", to keep in cadence. A guy standing by me later questioned me on that. My reply was: "That was the King James Version, as it was originally written". That shut him up.

ONE NATION INDIVISIBLE ....
