Analyze this:

"Look, if we had something to hide we wouldn't have met with them in the first place. We answered all their questions. As I say, I came away good about the session because I wanted them to know how I set strategy, how we run the White House, how we deal with threats," Bush said.

I find this statement really disturbing. The opposite is true - they tried desperately to avoid deposition and then put all sorts of controls on it. And he's spouting the philosophy of a criminal. It's as if Don Corleone told him, "when you're guilty, just make sure you avoid any type of questioning."

*edit to clarify

1. I'm choking on feathers.....
What a disgusting fluff piece. The 9-11 report is all but written: "Golly, PRESIDENT Bush worked TIRELESSLY to defend our nation, but was MISINFORMATIONED by those weany Clinton-era CIA and FBI holdovers! This message approved by GOD, Inc."

2. Oh, yeah, he sets strategy. I am so impressed. The lazy fucking bastard
He has spent his first 3 years either on vacation or fundraising on taxpayer money 84% of the time!!!

84%!!!!!!1

How the fuck could he possibly "set strategy"?

Even if he weren't a complete fucking moron, he just isn't on the job enough.

3. They didn't meet with them in the first place
so how is that a defense?

And in a typical Bush fashion he is the one bringing up the suggestion that they are hiding something. Who said anything about hiding something? No one but you Bush? Do you think we think you have something to hide?

4. Mommy, how can I tell when someone is talking doublespeak?
Hypothetical question posed by a politically astute 10 year old.

5. Freedom is Slavery
War is Peace

etc etc etc

Bush is a Coward. Afraid to face the music for his actions. His failure to testify publicly is telling indeed. Bill Clinton had the courage to testify UNDER OATH before the American People. What is George hiding?

7. The fact that he's even talking about having "something to hide"
is just so revealing. Freaking scary.

10. Exactly.
He has lots to hide and he made every effort to do so. And he just can't help saying so.

9. They didn't swear to tell the truth ..
It was troubling that Bush and Cheney insisted on being questioned together. What did the White House fear about the two men being questioned separately? That they wouldn't get their stories straight separately? That Bush might go off the reservation and say something Cheney didn't want him to?

We also are troubled by the fact that neither Bush nor Cheney were under oath when they answered questions. Granted, it is precedent-setting that a president and vice president would testify before a legislatively created body, but the refusal to answer questions under oath certainly must leave the public wondering.
