John Kerry believes it is necessary to scale back several provisions in the Patriot Act to assure our enhanced security does not come at the expense of our civil liberties. The details of his suggestions: http://johnkerry.com/issues/100days/civil_liberties.html

“The Patriot Act defends our liberty. The Patriot Act makes it able for those of us in positions of responsibility to defend the liberty of the American people. It's essential law… And yet some senators and congressmen not only want to let the provisions expire, but they want to roll back some of the act's permanent features. And it doesn't make any sense.” George W. Bush, April 20, 2004, Hershey, Pennsylvania, http://georgewbush.com/HomelandSecurity/Read.aspx?ID=2450

1. i know its been said before
but this language is Orwellian, so much so that if Bush even knew what Orwellian meant, he wouldn't quite say it like this:

"The Patriot Act makes it able for those of us in positions of responsibility to defend the liberty of the American people"

Read: We defend liberty by restricting liberty.

2. My greatest Kerry concerns are presidential prerogatives.
He thinks, and has said, that he wouldn't do what George did. Because he's the better leader is the inference. But absolute power corrupts absolutely.

The Patriot Act protects nothing. It must sunset.
