Great Guardian article on U.S. forces torture scandal in Iraq. |
|
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1206725,00.htmlIt also mentions that the U.S. military also used private contractors to use for interrigations thus washing the military's hands of torturing Iraq prisoners themselves. This is a story that must not go away and should blow wide open what else maybe going on inside Iraq itself and the U.S. forces occupation there. John

1. Contractors? What does it mean you don't have jurisdiction? So |
|

6. That's right -- the US says they have no jurisdiction over them |
|
One civilian contractor was accused of raping a young male prisoner but has not been charged because military law has no jurisdiction over him.
(snip)
Colonel Jill Morgenthaler, speaking for central command, told the Guardian: "One contractor was originally included with six soldiers, accused for his treatment of the prisoners, but we had no jurisdiction over him. It was left up to the contractor on how to deal with him."
She did not specify the accusation facing the contractor, but according to several sources with detailed knowledge of the case, he raped an Iraqi inmate in his mid-teens.

8. This article has more detail than the CBS report up on their webpage. |
|
Does anyone know if any of our newspapers have report the details naming the names of the "private contractors" and their responsibility?
Always depend on the Guardian for the "real indepth" story. We don't ever get that here where stories are "one day wonders" and drift off into the memory hole.
