Kerry's Speech Today will be on Iraq Position & No Attacks on Bush
Excuse me while I call the store and see if I can order tranquilizers over the counter!!!..........In my local newspaper last night I read a wire story regarding Kerry's Westminster College speech today. It said that Kerry will outline his Iraq/Foreign Policy stance. They said his views on Iraq are quite similar to Bush's but he's going to flesh it out more. It then said that his staff says that unlike the partisan attack waged by Cheney in his speech there, Kerry will not attack Bush or Cheney or make such remarks. Okaaaay, John....whatever...the world will be hanging on every word of another of your "policy" speeches and don't worry your pretty head because no one heard or reported those nasty remarks by the Dick boy..........oh, geeees. Opportunity number-what blown again. Trust me the media would report an attack; but they are going to reduce his "policy" to a ticker blurb and a Bush rebuttal to the next item on the ticker!!!

1. I've been out of the loop all week and I missed all the hoopla over
Cheney's speech at Westminister College. Could someone update me on what happened? Thanks

2. This is a major foreign policy speech
and should be taken with the seriousness it deserves. Unlike what your "local paper" says, Kerry plans to give details of his plan for Iraq.....which is not like Bush.

While you may want entertainment and not feel compelled to listen, many pundits, reporters, and big shots will be hanging on every word, as will those who appreciate substance.

3. What time is this speech
at West.

Also there is no real update on Cheney's remarks. He basically ripped JK on security.

FULTON, Mo. - Democrat John Kerry will stand Friday in the same Westminster College gymnasium where he was criticized this week by Vice President Dick Cheney to deliver his own speech, a campaign spokesman said Wednesday.

The Massachusetts senator is to speak at 1 p.m. Friday at the campus where British statesman Winston Churchill warned in 1946 of an "Iron Curtain" descending across Europe after World War II, said Kerry spokesman Bill Burton.

Kerry was invited by Westminster's president, Fletcher Lamkin, after Cheney criticized Kerry's record and questioned whether he is fit to be commander in chief. Lamkin said in a campuswide e-mail that he was "surprised and disappointed" about Cheney's political remarks, because the school had been told he would deliver a "major foreign policy address."

4. I said it was a wire story not my local yocals; it was Reuters and
they were already writing it off as "a lot like Bush". They will cover it and it will be worthy of possibly one line on the news. If he also threw in a few attacks, more would be covered. I know, I know, the rules are that Democrats have to play nice---that's why we win so much..........

14. It would be lovely if he said something about Falluja
and how it symbolizes the haphazardness and reactive nature of the Bushist approach since the "Mission" was "Accomplished."

15. Funny, I don't remember our two-term President Clinton
as an attack dog. I mostly remember how he would teach as he spoke about issues. Lot's of light, less heat. That's what I recall about our two-time winner.

5. He needs to attack
to call out Smirk personally, goad him into a debate in undeniable terms. "I am tired of having my record attacked by men who never served in uniform. I call on Mr. Bush to debate me on these issues next week. Let's pick a time when we both have campaign stops scheduled, cancel them, and ask each other questions for an hour. Until he's willing to do this I think he shoud stop lying about me".

18. Yes, he needs to ATTACK!
But he seems reluctant to do so.

It could be an illusion created by the Corporate TV Pravda floating lazily along in the oily wake of the Party-Loyal Bushevik Sub-Media.

6. If you ask me, Cheney made an ass out of himself at
Westminster. He portrayed a perfect example of gutter politics and I am glad that Kerry will be above that. If I wanted a slimeball for a politician, I would vote republican. I think Kerry is doing the right thing here. I don't think he should engage in the kind of dickhead speech that so shocked the head of the school in the first place.

9. This is why Democrats have a hard time getting male votes
The guy is personally ripped by an intellectual lightweight posing as an expert and instead of responding with full force, Kerry will respond like a lamb.

Male reasoning: "If Kerry won't even stand up to Dick Cheney when he gets sand kicked in his face, imagine how limply he'd respond to real tough guys wanting to do America harm. At least Bush* and Cheney will fight, Kerry will waffle."

It's simplistic I know, but believe me that is the perception--and it's devastating.

10. Kerry has a classy response
"You don't come to Fulton to give a speech, you come to Fulton to honor a tradition and give the country and the world the gift of hard truths and a sense of hope."

---
Not manyly enough, I guess. My opinion is that there is a time and place for everything. This isn't the place for it. Kerry has been blasting Bush plenty, and I don't see how some DUers aren't hearing it, unless it's a case of "nothing is good enough, or mean enough"

13. I'm a male voter
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 12:40 PM by bigtree
I'm as rough and aggressive as they come. My personal concerns are my living wage, taxes, security, all of the issues that get a lot of heat but very little light. The last thing we need to do is pander to mindless testosterone-laden appeals. We need serious and sensitive examinations of policy and direction of our government. You can't do that with a neanderthal's club, with some beer-boasting, puffed up rhetoric.

Just what is it that appeals to you about Bush and Cheney's "fight" ?!!!! What's "tough" about their deceptions and lies? What nonsense to suggest that anything they have done is manly or mature. What nonsense to suggest we should ape their behavior, like some high school brawling, or some jack-ass argument. If we allow our party to be pulled down into the dumb-ass machoism that is glorified by know-nothing media and ignorant infantiles then we will only have ourselves to blame for the dumbing down of America.

11. Why don't we just turn our party into jack-ass republican clones
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 12:03 PM by bigtree
Instead of actually address issues, why don't we just spend our time responding to every simpleton attack uttered by the Bush league? Forget presenting a plan to get us out of Iraq, forget presenting an actual plan for our nation's security, just wait for the next jack-ass statement from some counterfeit loser in the White House and give 'em tit-for-tat.

I'll tell you why not. The country needs more than a sound bite presidency. The nation will grow weary of a sound bite candidate who offers no real solutions to the problems we face. They may cheer some well-delivered slam, but If our party doesn't bother to spend its time actually addressing these issues in a serious way then the American people will have nothing to choose from between a frick and a frack.

I suggest that we should give our homage and appreciation to our candidate as he urges his own agenda on the airwaves and leave the White House to its own song and dance.

16. Rule #1 When your opponent has suffered a BIG loss - keep your mouth shut
and be a gracious winner. Kerry doesn't need to beat up on Bush - Bush is doing a great job of beating himself. When your opponent is bloodied - the best thing to do is get out of their way and let them continue to "bleed" and continue to screw themselves.

If the Dems were to "beat up" on Bush - it would result in sympathy for Bush and THAT would be the headline instead of "miserable failure" Bush.
