PRESIDENT BUSH: A year ago, I did give the speech from the carrier, saying that we had achieved an important objective, that we'd accomplished a mission, which was the removal of Saddam Hussein. And as a result, there are no longer torture chambers or rape rooms or mass graves in Iraq. As a result, a friend of terror has been removed, and now sits in a jail. I also said on that carrier that day that there was still difficult work ahead.

And we've faced tough times in Iraq, Mr. Prime Minister, we've had some tough times. We've had some tough fighting, because there are people who hate the idea of a free Iraq. They're trying to stop progress, because they understand what freedom means to their terrorist ambitions.

And so we're making progress, you bet. There's a strategy toward freedom. One of it, of course, is to continue to deal with those who are trying to stop the Iraqi people from realizing their ambitions of a free society. Whether it be in Fallujah, or elsewhere, we will deal with them, those few who are stopping the hopes of many.

3. We should not be surprised.
There is no excuse for the actions of the American soldiers involved. However, like all governmental agencies the Pentagon will hang the lowest ranking soldiers while higher ranking officers who condoned this, either complicity or tacitly, might get a promotion deferred a little longer.

5. Good Lord
This is disgusting. I have to believe these soldiers are among the minority, and most of our servicemen and women are behaving with more dignity.

Do they NOT realize this is a culture that holds grudges for thousands of years? They'll declare jihad against us for generations to come. Oh, our doomed ship is navigated by the dumbest f*cks on the planet. Deliver us in November. We are surely teetering on the brink.

8. Ugh!
I can't believe how widespread the problem is.

But, it's really not all that surprising. Many of our volunteer army come from disadvantaged backgrounds, from rural poor areas, and lack education. I figure many soldiers are like police officers--they jones for a legal reason to wield a weapon and have power over other people.

Let's hope these folks are the exception rather than the rule...I know we also have many brave and upstanding people in the military who wouldn't do something like this.

Thanks for the Google suggestion!
