Is Randi really trying to say that George is hearing god
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 02:35 PM by Az
and just missing the message? She just beat the living daylights out of a caller that suggested that there may be a biological explanation for his hearing god. She seems to be trying to insist that yeah, god is talking to Georgie but he is getting the message wrong. Is this a good tact for her to be running?

1. not quite
she is emphasizing that God talks to bush accordign to bush.

We usually lock people like that... and heavily medicate them. I think that is the point she is making

3. What she minded is that the guy was saying that he had a
medical condition and he had no proof of that. She did not want people to say she allowed callers to spout un-corroborated pap.

4. Yeah, and the reason we do that is
because they may be experiencing things like what the caller suggested. But she tarred and feathered that guy. She stopped short of locking him in the stocks and handing out rotten tomatos.

She seems to be trying sell the idea that god's message is coming through in an ironic form. Seems to be turning it into you are worshipping the wrong god, mine is the right one argument.

2. She says: If you have something good, why mess it up?
She doesn't consider the stroke report credible - doesn't want to advance it on her show.

5. Then target the seizure report
Not the caller suggesting a biological explanation for the Madness of King George.

6. I think she had a valid point
I have conversations with God too. Doesn't mean I'm hearing dellusional directives to invade other countries for no reason.

7. The problem about talking about serious religious belief
is that to talk about it accurately, one is inevitably accused of ridiculing it. The very preposterousness of unblinking true faith is its best cover.

The way to use religion against Junior is to expose him as a unilateralist and scare the pants off of everyone who doesn't share the same beliefs and even some who do.

Here are some questions I'd like to have him asked in public:

1) Do you think that Christians are inherently more moral than non-Christians?

2) Is a Christian's word worth more than a non-Christian?

3) Did god tell you that there were WMDs in Iraq when he told you to attack?

4) Is your loyalty to god greater to your loyalty to the Constitution?

These are fun questions: if he answers #4 for god, he's in violation of his oath of office, and if for the Constitution, he'll alienate the faithful. Similar problem with #s 1 & 2: he'll be choosing between his base and the entire rest of the world. #3 is just a standard easy tripping-up-of-religion question like George Carlin's venerable "if god is all powerful, can he make a rock that even he can't lift?"
