736 names times 2 seconds/name = 24.5 minutes.
If Ted Koppel reads one full name every two seconds it will take him an entire half hour of the show, plus commercials, to read through the list. It will take much longer, of course, to include where they were from, where they were killed, etc.

Just to put things in perspective.

5. No, I think he's reading them all...
Someone wrote in and asked "why aren't you going to read my son's name? He was decorated, but he was killed in a truck accident, not in combat?"
Their reply was "we can't think of any excuse" so they are extending the show another 10 minutes to get them all read.

6. "those killed in combat"
I remember much earlier in the war, a couple of troops were taking heavy fire in their Humvee and were fleeing. They crashed into a building and were killed. They were not considered combat fatalities.

9.  Coulter/ Cleland
This made me think of Ann Coulter's insulting column ripping apart Max Cleland for being "a phony" because his wounds were not from direct combat. At the time I thought about all the kids in Iraq being killed in truck accidents or ordinance mishaps, and how their parents would feel reading her hateful blather.
