3. Seymour Hersh has kicked ass in recent months
with several investigative pieces. Among them was the one on the Bush Administration "stovepiping" intelligence, which led to Bush & Company giving their half-cocked speeches about Iraq's WMDs and yellowcake acquisition.

It's good to see Hersh getting such national recognition. He's one of the few quality investigative reporters left in America. His reports appear regularly on www.newyorker.com.

4. Great exchanges throughout the show...
Diane: How did you get hold of the Taguba report

Sy: Oh Diane, you've been around long enough to know not to ask me that..

Diane: Well, some think there are people inside the Pentagon who wanted the report out..

Sy: DUH...

10. I actually...

.... thought that he was a bit rude on that point.

Now, I'm a well-known NPR hater - but Diane Rehm has the best serious talk show on radio, PERIOD.

She runs a tight ship, lets people have their say, and doesn't let anyone get away with making unsubstantiated claims or wacko rhetoric.

Mr Hersh should be more respectful IMHO. This is not Bill O-Really we're talking about here.

on edit... my point being that I'm sure Ms. Rehm knew that "there were people in the pentagon who wanted..." but she asked that question for the benefit of those in her audience who might not have understood that. That's why I felt the rather harsh "DUH" was out of line.

11. Someone literally put their life on the line handing the Taguba report..
to Sy. Diane Rehm was out of line asking that question.

5. Sy on the efficacy of torture:
Edited on Tue May-04-04 08:18 PM by Junkdrawer
Says most of the old guard CIA guys he talks to tells him torture doesn't work. And that's because, under torture, people tell you what ever you want to hear.

So you round up a large group of young men - torture them - and they give you the name of every male relative and friend. You round them up and they tell you the name of every male.... And you wonder why you get no "actionable intelligence". Asinine.

This is why the old guard stopped the practice. But Rumsfeld with his Manhunter program re-instituted the practice.

-----

I've said it before and I'll say it again - this whole thing points to Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz.

8. Great Interview...Also Was On With Tweety
Hirsch looks like a man vindicated, considering all the crap he's taken from this regime over his past reports.

He was on with Tweety and stood up strong there...knocking down the "gotcha" questions about which photo was worse than the others and what did he see on the others and so on. Hirsch's sources are giving him so much rope, but the whores still refuse to use it on those who are sending our kids to slaughter in Iraq.

12. Someone wrote that if the military hadn't decided that
they wanted this information out that the information would
not have gotten out. Someone posted that the it would
seem that the military knows that Iraq is an unsolvable mess and that they want out and when they want out that is when this ends.
I don't understand all the ins and outs of this but it feels like
there are different factions of folks with different agendas fighting
for control. I think that was the point of Diane R's question to Hersh.
