but psychologically, I can think of 2 important distinctions:

1. Frat pledges VOLUNTEER for their torture/abuse.

2. Frat pledges implicitly understand there are LIMITS and CONSEQUENCES (i.e. if they are really badly hurt or murdered). The POWs have no such assurances, and would be scared shitless.
