Subject: Re: Karen Hughes as GOP Hypocrite

You really shouldn't be too hard on Karen. Apparently she never got over being born in the land of cheese-eating surrender monkeys, which explains why she behaves in a way that no properly raised Southern lady would:

http://www.winningwomen.org/winningwomen/KHughes.htm

Incidentally, our good buddy Tom DeLay has gone on record as saying "Good afternoon, or, as John Kerry might say, 'Bonjour.'" This raises a little question: what the hell kind of name is DeLay anyway? Sounds pretty French to me. So I thought I'd see if I could trace his ancestry. To do that, you start with the parents and work backwards. What are the names of DeLay's parents? I haven't been able to find out. In his official biographies, he doesn't say (see http://tomdelay.house.gov/biography.htm , http://www.tomdelay.com/html/biography.cfm , and http://www.goptoday.com/html/bio.cfm ).

Why not? Someone somewhere knows the answer to this, and knows something about his ancestry. It might be fun to do a little research or to try to find someone who knows. You never know what interesting facts might turn up, especially since the old boy seems to have gone to some trouble to hide this information. Please consider posting this somewhere and asking for volunteers. It could be fun.

4. Doesn't Delay have a really screwed up family life?

Something about being estranged from his children (On Edit: Mother). There was a long NYT Magazine on Delay several years ago - maybe that would have some info if it is in their Archive.

15. "A native Texan, Tom DeLay was born along the banks of the Rio Grande..."
"... River in the historic border city of Laredo on April 8, 1947. During his childhood, the DeLay family lived in South America for a number of years. His father's career in the oil and gas industry required several job postings to Venezuela's rural interior and the DeLay family made their home in small towns near the oil fields."

"DeLay's years in Venezuela were a formative political experience. His family lived through the turbulence and uncertainty of three revolutions. Two of these events were violent and neighboring townspeople died at the hands of marauding revolutionaries. DeLay points to this early exposure to political violence as the source of his lifelong "passion for freedom.""

Yikes. Axe to grind, anyone?
