So who you gonna believe? Chickenhawk Cheney who never militarily a day in his life or these guy's below: BTW: (A must read)

Dissension Grows In Senior Ranks On War Strategy
Deep divisions are emerging at the top of the U.S. military over the course of the occupation of Iraq, with some senior officers beginning to say that the United States faces the prospect of casualties for years without achieving its goal of establishing a free and democratic Iraq.

<snip>
A senior general at the Pentagon said he believes the United States is already on the road to defeat. "It is doubtful we can go on much longer like this," he said. "The American people may not stand for it -- and they should not."

Asked who was to blame, this general pointed directly at Rumsfeld and Deputy Defense Secretary Paul D. Wolfowitz. "I do not believe we had a clearly defined war strategy, end state and exit strategy before we commenced our invasion," he said. "Had someone like Colin Powell been the chairman , he would not have agreed to send troops without a clear exit strategy. The current OSD refused to listen or adhere to military advice." <end snip>

4. Oh, and Powell would be so great.
Remember how the press on Gulf War I was CONTROLLED.

The whole thing could be descending into chaos, like now, and Powell would make sure it got censored. Hey, My Lai didn't exist. Move on. No there there. Coverup.

Those military officers ought to watch out what they ask for.

6. Hard for me to imagine how
to fuck up running a war any worse than they have.

Not enough soldiers
Not enough armor
Not enough money
Not enough ammunition
No plan B
National Guard on extended overseas duty
Disavow Geneva Convention
Illegal appropriation shifting
Deceiving Red Cross
Insult potential allies
Defy UN

7. Oh yeah, and one more thing..
The prison abuse sorta reminds me, in a way, of the mandatory sentencing conservatives always want over here. The thing that strikes me about both situations is that there would appear to be NO contemplation of the long term consequences. In (harsh) mandatory sentencing, i believe the idea is mostly about deterrence. In other words, if the punishment is harsh enough, criminals won't do the crime. Nevertheless, those that DO get locked up for 10 years will have an extremely diificult time building a productive life. We are essentially discarding them, and we might as well lock them up for life.

In the prison abuse, we may (or may not) get some information by torturing these prisoners, but it seems we might as well then kill them, because we have made enemies for life out of all of them, and their children, and their siblings, and their cousins, and their grandchildren.

Is it possible, or even conceivable, that there was any intention of EVER releasing these prisoners after such treatment? I shudder.
