Anybody watching MTP now? Levin on.
Is Bush responsible? Levin: he helped by repudiating the use of the Geneva convention for "war on terror" prisoners.

1. repug. Graham: it's not just a few bad apples.
Karpinski saying that they were following directions of MP it is a very delicate issue and should be investigated.

who shouldn't take the fall,do you think he's including pointer girl and her baby daddy in that statement?

2. Clark: Geneva convention was designed to protect our soldiers
There is more than a systemic failure; it goes all the way to the top. Bush says he is the commander in chief and he should take responsibility.

Edited on Sun May-09-04 08:10 AM by OKNancy
He is the only one to say...It goes to the top. Bush touts himself as Commander in Chief and it is his responsibility.

Lindsey Graham sounds reasonable....for a Republican, anyway.

On edit: comment about Graham....I take it back.

15. Tabuga report mentioned by Russert: Blaming dirt-poor soldiers.
Edited on Sun May-09-04 08:18 AM by LittleApple81
No instruction training, few or any copies of Geneva convention are given to the prison personnel.
NYT: Frederick's father: they are afraid his son would be taking the fall for administration. Contacted the army to avoid 60 minutes publishing the pictures but because they wanted to blame soldiers perceived to be dirt-poor Americans without real recourse they allowed the pictures to be broadcast.

torture. Bring it out into the open and deal with it. Because otherwise we won't be able to say that we deal with problems.
Levin wants the public should also see the movies and pictures. We need to deal with the issues in the open.

confuses me sometimes, but then I remember....my dad was a lawyer and really good lawyers have a strong belief in "THE LAW". That is, the law is above all other things - it's amost biblical to them.

How could he "support the law" without supporting the Geneva Conventions? He can't.

He made two digs at Clark for his attacks on the president. Notice that Wes was not given time on Bug Eyes' program to respond to Graham.

30. Wrap up
Levin was good and diplomatic. Warner was an ass and defended the adminstration when possible. Graham was an enigma...believes in the law, get out the bad stuff, but says don't make it political.
Of all the panelists, Clark was the most political. He was constantly going back to politics.....never came right out and said it directly, but everyone knows what he meant, ie. Bush is a fuck up and there needs to be a change in the administration.

The DOD is in a shambles right now, thanks to Rummie and his civilians. Clark is one of the few people who can fix it and the only way he can do that is if he is VP.

36. I thought Graham did pretty good
I think it was very telling that Warner could not say who was in charge of the interrogations..Even at this late a date.

I'm from SC and I'm not a Graham fan but, I think he is crossing party lines here. He and McCain were the only two repubs to ask tough questions at the hearings.

37. I'm not hating Graham at all.
He punched out Cheney for daring to tell Congress what to do "Get off his back."

This is basically telling the administration this investigation is going forward and they can stuff it.

During the hearing, he was adamant that he would NOT be happy to see only lower ranks pay for this.

43. Graham is intriguing...
OKNancy's comments perhaps shed some light on his "appearance" of acting with integrity. He sometimes gave this appearance during the impeachment hearings...and then, he would get a strange glint in his eye and it would become apparent that he is an idealogue and a zealot.

My Republican husband thinks he is just an opportunist. Interesting.

44. Clark spoke from a position of strength
It was interesting to watch all three Senators taking what Clark said seriously, even deferring to his opinions to some extent (well, completely in Levin's case, as you would expect). Certainly, none felt they could ignore him or blow him off. They know Clark's a guy they will have to deal with in some capacity if Kerry wins in November.
