Lynndie England Photo: What the Heck is on the Table?
Edited on Fri May-14-04 01:35 AM by JCMach1

Is that a torture instrument... i.e. metal modelling knife with razor blade tip? No doubt perfect for fingernail work...

Don't forget the white chair?

We have entered the mouth of hell... :(

But probably not in this case.

looks like brandy sneefer, the woman doesn't want to get in on her hands. She's protecting her hands with a papertowel or a cloth. I don't think that it's a hot cup of coffee, a cold rum and coke or a merlot. England wears brown t-shirt and guy wears green. What is the meaning of the different colors.

Yikes, didn't consider that-- Nitric Acid
Edited on Fri May-14-04 03:13 AM by JCMach1
Nitric (Aqua fortis, or Red spirit of Nitre): Usually colourless, though the presence of oxides of nitrogen can impart a reddish-brown tint. The usual strength of the acid (HNO3) is 70% weight, although the powerful brownish 'fuming' nitric acid contains 94%. Nitric acid is obtained either by the action of sulphuric acid on potassium nitrate, or by the oxidation of ammonia. Commercially used in the manufacture of plastics, dyes and fertilizer nitrates, as well as explosives (nitroglycerine). Nitric is the only acid that will dissolve gold (hence the 'acid test'), and it is this property of dissolving metals that has caused nitric acid to be viewed unfavourably for use in acid-baths.

Nevertheless, a decidedly deadly use for it was found by the notorious Dr Geza de Kaplany. De Kaplany was a thirty six year old Hungarian anaesthetist living and practicing in California and married to a model whose physical beauty he was insanely jealous. In August 1962, neighbours were so upset by the constant moaning and wailing sounds coming from the direction of the de Kaplany residence that the police were called in, and the source of the disturbance traced to Mrs Hanja de Kaplany.

In order, it seems, that no other man should ever enjoy his wife's beauty, de Kaplany had turned their bedroom into a virtual torture chamber. Tying Hanja to the bed, de Kaplany had made cut marks down and across her body and then systematically poured acid into the wounds. A note found in the room instructed the agonised woman: "If you want to live - do not shout; do what I tell you to or else you will die." Thirty six hours after her admittance to hospital for emergency treatment Hanja de Kaplany did die. At the scene of her ordeal, police found three one pint bottles containing hydrochloric, sulphuric and nitric acid - the latter was almost empty, the bed had become a mass of soggy, disintegrating sheets and the carpet was burned through by the action of the acid. Although de Kaplany was eventually sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, he was paroled in 1976, in one of the most controversial decisions in Californian legal history...

30. Ummm...
looking at the picture, the "xacto knife" has both a pocket clip and a plunger at the far end. I guess those devious MPs are disguising their xacto knives now as ordinary writing implements...but the pen has always been mightier than the sword (unless you try to parry a sword blow with a pen, in which case, the sword is mightier than the pen.)

27. A kind word or three for Lynndie England
I have no love for the prodigal PFC England. She done wrong, and there's no way for her to escape that verdict, even if she was untrained, stupid, and Only Following Orders. She may deserve rebuke and punishment for her part in the abuse of the prisoners of Abu Ghraib, but in the interest of perpective, look at what she faces:

1. She will be -- and actually is being -- blamed for being the single "bad apple" that infected the whole bunch. (In spite of the fact that she wasn't even the chief honcho in this debacle -- and it came about because of dereliction on the part of Rumsfeld, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and CENCOM.)

2. She will be court-martialed, possibly thrown into the stockade, and probably forfeit much of her military pay. (In spite of the fact that most of her co-defendants will likely be exonerated, especially the officers.)

3. Her name will be poison on the lips of millions of people around the world. (In spite of the fact that nobody -- not even most of us here at DU -- could tell you the name of any of the other perps.)

4. She will become the latest Evil Woman put on display by the morally upright American press, and figure in the miserable fantasies of millions of people, as much as Tonya Harding, Jane Fonda, and Aimee Semple MacPherson (among others) did before her.

Lynndie England will bear most of the public humiliation and military discipline. It will leave dozens of other Abu Ghraib abusers free from legal jeopardy and public notoriety. It will allow Shrub and Rummy and the rest of the gang to point her out and proclaim that PFC England is the sole vessel of evil and is being exorcised from the "Coalition". And even a lot of us will miss the criminality of a cover-up using PFC England as a decoy.

Let Lynndie England "take her medicine" -- but make sure that everybody gets a well-deserved dose of it.

A spoonful for Lynndie England; a keg for George W. Bush.

57. The "torture apologists"...
are dead meat. Everyone knows what happened there, and there's no deniability.

The Army has an MOS for interrogator, actually two, and the rules are strict-- this stuff is absolutely illegal. The rules are also often broken when the CIA steps in, as they apparently did here. It's not the sort of thing they want to talk about much.

Bet on seeing a few show trials, and they'll hope everyone thinks it's all over. Worse photos wouldn't make much of a difference.

58. Disagree...
Any artist can tell you that the difference in skin tones (values) is EXACTLY what you would get when two heads are facing a single light source at different angles. I would actually suspect photoshopping IF they had been carefully matched to have the same skin tones, which is what most folks would expect.

The light source is obvious by the shadow cast by LE's right ear and neck onto the shoulder of the soldier behind her. England's head is tilted slightly upwards towards the source of the light, whilst the soldier's head is angled down and slightly to the side of the light source. This is consistent with the shadows cast by LE.

60. Only Following Orders.
It has been leaked that there is a Video of her having sex with several of her fellow soldiers in front of naked Iraqi detainees. Think she was ordered to do that, as well? I saw an interivew with her and she sure did not seem remorseful in the least.

She'll prolly have a career in the porn industry when she gets out of prison.
