California to "randomly" select ballot spots for 193 candidates... |
|
Who wants to bet that "Ahnult" and/or Simon are on the first page?
Anyone? Bueller?

Why not alphabetical? How the hell are you supposed to find your candidate in a list of 193?
Morons.

2. I'd love to see the names |
|
There's go to be at least one name "close" to Arnold's that will get a bunch of votes from lazy voters.

5. There's a BBV angle to this (anyone see NYT article on Sunday?) |
|
Apparently the punch card ballots can't hold this many candidates, so some districts might be forced to use the touch screen machines for the first time, even though they don't want to.
Incidentally, I once was a poll-watcher at a punch card polling place (after 2000). The people running it told me the punch cards were 100% readable -- they'd never ever had a spoiled ballot -- SO LONG AS YOU CLEAN OUT THE MACHINE! In Palm Beach, they hadn't cleaned out the machines for something like 9 elections.

A CNN/USA poll of 801 people says that 64 percent would vote to recall Davis and 42% would consider voting for Ar-nuld!!! What do you make of this??? Link: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=511&e=3&u=/ap/20030811/ap_on_el_gu/davis_recall

What those polls show is how effective the media is in getting Arhnohlds message out.
Really, since last Wednesday all cable news channels have been "all arnold, all the time". And we're surprised that the polls reflect this?
I's closed circuit feedback folks. Something or someone has to break the cycle.

"Hasta la vista, Gray davis."
That's the only "message" Ahnuld has.

of names to find their candidate. And you thought the butterfly ballot was bad? And will that random also include some lucky names in bold print? Caps? Hey, I have a better idea: keep the alphabet, list by first names, non?

10. Could this work in Davis's favor? |
|
A voter goes in and wants to recall Davis, but realizes there's ten pages of names to sort through and figures it isn't worth the effort and just votes to keep Davis.

12. It increases chance that people will pick reandomly... |
|
but it also increases the chance that one well-organized candidate will win by only getting their hardcore 7% or whatever base to vote.

13. IIRC, most state election laws require this |
|
And each precint must be seperately randomized.
Based upon the number of precincts, the number of candidates, and the number of potential listings, no two precincts in California should have identical listings.
