FAUX critic trashes "The Day After Tomorrow"... because of 9/11???

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,120825,00.html

"In "Day After," downtown New York, in an aerial view, is flooded with water and then snow. The whole thing resembles the billowing smoke that poured between the canyons of buildings on that horrible day from real life. Later, survivors are seen waving from rooftops of buildings, a grisly reminder of the tragic souls who made that mistake at the World Trade Center hoping for safety.

New Yorkers do not need to see our city in this condition, whether or not it's fantasy"

1. If they don't want to see that condition
they better do something about greenhouse gasses or it will be a reality.

5. hm no..at least not like in the movie
but we could say byebye to Florida, New Orleans and other costal areas within a period as limited as a decade or twenty years. We could also face a world crisis with food production.

3. Puhleeez
We New Yorkers are used to seeing out city destroyed. It is Hollywood's favorite target! It is also one of the most recognizable cities in the world (even though most scenes of New York are actually filmed in Canada).

Trust me, we just are not that "sensitive." We understand that as an internation capitol, we are always going to be a real and fictional target.

4. I think this is a telling remark
About the critics critical thinking skills and taste in movies...

<<It's not like I'm a snob, either. I count Emmerich's "Independence Day" — or "ID4" as it became known — as one of my favorite films. But "ID4" had a strong script with, well, developed characters. >>

LOL

15. He liked ID4 because
...it showed the White House being destroyed while Clinton was still President.

But trash New York while Bush is in office and a Republican is allegedly running the City, and forget it.

8. Oh jeez, the critics AND the "eco-freaks" should lighten up !!!
It's called SCIENCE FICTI0N, sweeties - with emphasis on the fiction.

Did everything in the H.G. Wells novels come to fruition in the real world in the exact way written? Nope.

Will global warming result in a world catastrophe such as depicted in the movie? Nope. If anything, devastating effects from global warming will occur very very slowly (for decades/centuries) with most of us not knowing it until it's too late.

It's like the proverbial tale of the frog in a pot of water. The frog will jump out to safety if it's dropped into boiling water. But if you turn up the temperature ever so slowly, the frog gets used to the water and doesn't realize it's boiling - until too late.

IMO, when the world as we know it ends, it will not be with a bang but a whimper.

So shut up, enjoy the movie as science fiction entertainment - and don't puke on my popcorn.

10. but you don't know

You nor anybody else on this planet knows what is going to
happen.

Now as far as the lightening up thing, yeah that's a good idea.
None of us are gonna be here that long anyway. And we have
probably already done irreversable damage at this point.

Always good to find another Vonnegut afficionado! Now, if someone can just tell me what damned book that line is from -- about the world ending not with a bang, but a whimper....

I'm a huge Vonnegut fan.
I wish that W was.

The line I wish he had read is "If you can do no good, at least do no harm."

18. T.S. Elliot, The Hollow Men
Starts:

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!

And ends:

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

20. Looks like we are both "right"
Moira's sobbing episode at the end of the chapter is one of the few emotional scenes in the book, and Moira's only tearful bout. The stoicism and calmness of the characters is surprising, considering they are living through that last days of humanity on earth. Their reactions are a reflection of the novel's epigraph—the world will end "not with a bang but a whimper." This quotation, which comes from T.S. Eliot's poem "The Hollow Men," tells us how the story will end even before the novel opens. As the novel progresses, we see the characters continue to fill their time with their daily routines, taking little time to cry out against their fate and reaffirm the dignity of humanity.

Right. So get Bush* out already and it'll have more chance to remain fantasy.
