6. Wow, that's exactly what I was thinking!
My wife and I were talking about this last night, and I was asking, what possible reason could they have for tearing this down? How can this BENEFIT them?

And Halliburton was right there.

4. Of course it's a stunt
Everything about this administration has been nothing but one long PR stunt. Everything.

I don't say that lightly. This administration has raised the use of PR and propaganda to a new, sad art form.

The problem with over doing PR is that everything you say and do becomes hollow after a point. It appears that people are starting to wake up to this president's lies and deceit.

10. I have to place hope in something
And it seems like in the mass media the tide is turning, albeit slowly.

As biased as the mainstream media is, it can be used as a fairly good barometer of what most American's think. Well, those American's who get their news some sound bites and regurgitated press releases.

U.S. Military Opens Abu Ghraib Prison To Media

POSTED: 9:44 a.m. EDT May 18, 2004

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Journalists have had another look at a now-infamous prison near Baghdad.

Abu Ghraib is where U.S. troops sexually humiliated and abused Iraqi prisoners in their custody. Its name has been changed to "Camp Redemption" at the suggestion of the Iraqi Governing Council.

Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Miller, commander of U.S. detention facilities in Iraq, said it's important to show the world that the military is changing procedures to ensure abuse doesn't happen again.

He said he takes full responsibility for what happens now at the prison -- and that treatment of prisoners complies with the Geneva Conventions. He said he takes that responsibility "as a matter of honor." And Miller vowed that abuse won't happen under his command.

9. I agree with what Sen. McCain said a few weeks back...
Edited on Wed May-26-04 10:32 AM by LeinesRed
when Baghdad "fell" the prison should have been demolished and whomever thought that it was good idea to use as a coalition prison deserved a demotion. Now it's too late...pure PR stunt.

11. Here was another thought I had: could there be Berg evidence there?
Edited on Wed May-26-04 11:45 AM by Vickers
Blast that thing into oblivion, and DNA samples would be difficult to gather.

13. That was my immediate thought.
They could be destroying a crime scene. I'm not normally a tin-foil-hatter, but there seem to be enough discrepancies with the Berg "execution" video that I'm willing to believe it COULD have happened there. Nice way to eliminate any possibility of getting to the bottom of that, huh?
