propaganda campaign meant to prop up the Bush* is the most repulsive thing I have ever seen and truly disrespectful. I just hope it pisses off enough voting older voters to send a message.
Could there be enough people (of whatever generation) so ignorant of WWII history that they could possibly draw this kind of comparison? I am truly depressed, if so...

3. I agree. I'm sure this generation is as blessed as any. |
|
To call them GREAT because they have been put in a situation to defend themselves does not mean that the policy is great. Great soldiers can die for a BAD CAUSE.

...and I'm in the military, a veteran with 19 years in.
"The Greatest Generation" is just that -- the greatest. They fought the first and last war that was truly about good versus evil. I'm not trying to romanticize World War II -- there were plenty of saints and sinners on both sides of the Atlantic and Pacific -- but the cause that 16 million men and women fought for (and cost America more than 400,000 lives) was probably the last time an issue that led to war was black-and-white.
In my years in the military, with all the different operations I've been involved in, nothing has ever been as clear-cut. In fact, all I have ever felt is that I'm some useful resource for enforcing foreign policy: my promise to defend my country against all enemies foreign and domestic has been twisted into one to defend my country's idiotic leadership from looking like the complete asses they are.
I have watched the noble ideals of my country's military slowly become perverted by the greed of our leadership, coupled with the paranoia of "compassionate conservatives." We attack countries now without provocation, simply because they sit on vast oil fields, and asshole pundits like Coulter, Savage, and Hannity preach about how we need to convert the world to Christianity. Certainly worked for the Crusades.
So I look back at The Greatest Generation, and I salute them and say, "You got it right, and you did good."
Thank a vet this Memorial Day...
