Appearing on NBC-TV's "Meet the Press," (Nancy) Pelosi, a California Democrat, predicted the outcome of the race for the White House with Broadway Joe-style certainty.

"I will guarantee you that John Kerry will be president of the United States," Ms. Pelosi told the program's host, Tim Russert, in a manner similar to Mr. Namath's famous guarantee of the New York Jets' win over the Colts in Super Bowl III in 1969.

Why is she making guarantees about something she has no idea will happen or not. Yes, it seems likely that Kerry will win in the current environment, but this cocky stuff is kind of lame.
