Republicans currently contol both houses of Congress. In the Senate, it's 51 Republicans, 48 Democrats, and 1 Independent (Jim Jeffords of Vermont.) In the House, it's 228 Republicans, 205 Democrats, 1 Independent (Bernie Sanders of Vermont), and 1 vacant district (South Dakota only gets one Congressperson, and Republican Representative Bill Janklow resigned

2. It looks like it's going to be 206 Dems
At least until January. Herseth appears to be winning 52/48 in the special election for the remainder of Janklow's term.

Herseth has only a ~3,500 lead with only half the precincts in.

the second half is where i'd watch the results.

But the totals for both have varied <1% since the first precincts started rolling in. It's possible Diedrich could overtake her, but it would be pretty impressive.
