(in case you missed it) Scott Peterson trial started yesterday
I am sure many of you fellow news junkies were flipping around the "news" channels last night to see the latest information on the situation in Iraq, the pending global warming disaster, the state of American health care as well as long thoughtful discussions about the US military in the 21st century, our role in the AIDS epidemic, and efforts to end disease and hunger as we know it on this planet and missed any news of this trial.

A brief recap- yesterday the trial began of a heretofore unknown fertilizer salesman whose pregnant wife disappeared when he was fishing on Christmas Eve 2002. Apparently he wasn't the "perfect husband" many thought him to be but we want to reserve judgment on him in this ONE OF A KIND CASE of a marriage gone awry.

I don't know if the media will continue to cover this but from time to time OVER THE ENTIRE SUMMER I will offer updates that might not be available in the mass media. I expect to hear a long thoughtful discussion about how this sort of thing will irrevocably damage the "sanctity of marriage" about which many of our countrymen and women are so concerned about.

1. Sanctity of marriage...sigh..the New Yorker for this week has an excellent
article about the idea of marriage as we understand it. How it developed and how people have rejected its main premises in modern societies. But the idea of marriage has not as much to do with religion but property rights. It is really interesting.

I know you were being sarcastic, but sometimes sarcasm just hits me.

2. peterson
I thought this trial was over. The MEDIA has already tried and convicted him. There's not much else to say about it. Not withstanding my own opinion about him- The idea of innocent till proven guilty, dosen't hold much water anymore. Especially where the media is concerned.

The Globe or some trash publication like that had it's "Year in review: celebrities in trouble" issue. On the cover were:Michael Jackson, Martha Stewart, Kobe Bryant, Scott Peterson, and ..........hold it! Scott Peterson is a celebrity?

Yep sure enough there he was.
