Silently slouching towards 1000 dead

Shhh..... Don't look now but this morning the american death count was 816 and snowballing quietly. There are no more pictures of flag draped coffins, even though they return every night in the still black hours when most of us are sleeping.
We'll have 1000 by August, even with the much ballyhooed turnover, we're not leaving, if anything we're scraping the pot looking for more bodies to replace the ones there now.
Even my poor old apolitical daddy agreed with me that we're going to be in this for a long long time.
I'd love to see regular marches against this maddness, at least once a month worldwide, staying silent and sad isn't the way to deal with these bullies.

1. yes, the dead shame us, let's hide them

they remind us that we are in a clusterfuck trainwreck in iraq, let's not photograph them, and let's no longer photograph anything negative or nasty afterall, we are in a war.

when we reach the horrid 1000 dead soldier marker, they'll laugh and grin and say, 'that's the first thousand, now onward to victory!'

nothing will stop these men. nothing but we the people, and we don't seem to be all that concerned.

3. Perhaps we should inform the people that four more years of Bush

will bring a "draft" to America and then they can have an equal opportunity in filling the next 1,000 dead slots. Bet then they pay attention to the numbers.

2. Simply amazing

This is the saddest commentary on our nation. Dead soldiers get barely a mention. The wounded have been pretty well ignored all along. Out of sight, out of mind, unless you're personally affected.

4. Reading the essay

on the front page today the number 17,000 wounded was given. I don't know what that number is, but it sounds right, and the way are treated is a disgrace.

crippled forever, disfigured, the walking dead must be kept away from the happy stupid people. otherwise, we may start to wise up.
