Blowhard is right! What a whiney, lying, crybaby Boortz is. Like somebody said on the Franken blog: lying about someone on national TV (like Boortz did about Franken) is "fine", but pulling a gotcha about that person lying is "over the line"!? :eyes:
Then Boortz says he has to get off the cell phone while he's driving because he's a safe driver. I guess that first 15 minutes he was driving/talking was in another life! He's not just a liar - he's a BAD liar.
The O'Franken Factor has posted the clip from today's show because of the great response they got from listeners. Everyone who hasn't heard it should check it out.
Go AL!!!!!

Don't believe he doesn't screen callers. Try yourselves.
Although in fairness, Boortz has a disclaimer on his show that says that he may not be telling the truth.

But if Boortz had admitted he was wrong during his first or second appearance on Al Franken's show, he would have come across much better.

Neal was weaseling. He couldn't talk directly about the issue at hand which was the fact he got caught lying. So how he tried to weasel out of it using re-direction was very interesting.

I wonder if the possibility of saying "I was wrong" ever occurred to Boortz during the conversation.

Al Franken wouldn't last two seconds with Neal in the studio. Lest anyone forget how Neal absolutely sent Bill O'Reilly into a fit of apoplexy when he was 'invited' onto the No Spin Zone.
I can see where many folks here might take issue with Neal, but if you read his site and his stance on issues, you might realize that he also shares much common ground as well. He has been known to criticize Republicans as well, especially when they get into their prayer in schools, Christian Coalition mode. Neal is also pretty vocal about ending the war on drugs, supports gay rights, absolutely refuses to give anti-abortionists any play on his show, and he likes to anger what he calls the "Bible Thumpers." He also was a very vocal critic of Roy Moore and of posting the Ten Commandments. Neal even went so far as to castigate the current President for increasing the size and scope of the federal government and for increasing discretionary spending 13%. He even made the statement that if not for the War on Terror, Clinton was a more effective President. Boortz voted for Harry Browne in 96 and 2000, so he is not the Republican mouthpiece many folks here seem to think. So what if he disagrees with the socialist views many here like to promote. So do I, but I respect your views and your right to do so. Oh yeah, I am a libertarian if you hadn't figured that out yet. LOL
Why is it that because someone is a Hollywood celebrity that so many people automatically assign credibility to him? Franken has a quick wit, to be sure, but that hardly makes him a font of political wisdom.

It is something to think about. That's probably the reason he agreed to appear on Al's show anyway. He's a more reasonable guy then any neo-con, and it's been my opinion that almost all Libertarian's are cool about social issues.
The Limbaugh's, the O'Reilly, and the Savage's know their bullshit can't stand up to a fact checking, so they will NEVER agree to appear on Al's show - too afraid of being busted on the air.

|
Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 09:29 PM by Rationality
Neal Boortz is the textbook example of what I call a "LINO" (Libertarian in name only). He will make occasional rants against the Republican stance against marijuana and drug use, but will more often - way more often in fact - support Bush's foreign policy and military buildup, which is contradictory to true Libertarianism. I remember him doing a skit as well where he read off the "most" and "least generous metropolitan cities" in America. Of course, he said that there was a "correlation" between the top cities (Salt Lake City, Dallas-FT. Worth) and their Republican populations... you know where this is going.
Take your Neil Boortz libertarianism Republicanism elsewhere.

celebrity that their credibility is immediately questioned? (Unless, of course, the celebrity in question happens to be a Republican, like Mr. Schwartzenegger. Or Bo Derek.) Franken has a lot more going for him than a quick wit. Try reading one of his books.

Boortz is a pig. I hate his show. He did lie in the clip, but Franken blows it SOOO out of proportion. He should have said. "Okay, I think you told a fib here, but let's move on to some substantitve issues..." I understand that Boortz was trying to put a negative spin on Al and AAR, but Al wasn't getting that point across. He sounds like he's being a baby. If he's gonna play "gotcha", it had better be on something a bit more meaningful than this.
The point on Garofalo/desegregation was a bit better...

if you let one go...then you let another one go. he is doing this country a service. I'd say the mediamatters.org website got off the ground because of Al's book and how popular it's subject matter of systematically exposing rightwing lies affected people.
The guy who started mediamatters.org already had those ideas percolating, but Al Franken gave the idea currency. We need much, much more of this.
Hell, I don't even care if the right holds the left to such high "truth standard". They should.

My gripe is more on how much time he dwells on the rather dull subject of Boortz lying about a small thing. He caught him, he should've said "Gotcha! You lied! Let's move on to the next thing." That's my biggest gripe about Franken in general, actually. He drags EVERYTHING out about twice as long as it needs to be.

This is Neil's response. http://boortz.com/nuze/index.htmlI don't get why Al focused on this one thing. Why not address the issues facing America? I am listening to Al's excuse for the Democrats and the civil rights vote. The democrats still have a bigot in office. Robery Byrd. Also, in the 1940's the Texas democrat party went to the supreme court to defend their policy of not allowing blacks to vote in primaries. The democrat party does have a bad history on civil rights.
