The neocon vision. This is why I get nervous about empire.
When I post about my concerns, people think I am bashing Kerry. I am not. I am expressing my concerns for a policy that will keep us rebuilding some country or another....maybe Iran, maybe Venezuela if they don't go along with a leader chosen by us. It honestly scares me.
Of course I realize that Kerry will be better and will vote for him. I just don't think people realize how powerful these guys are. Jeb is all over Latin America all the time....doing things for his bro.
I am worried, and I want clarity....that is all.

SNIP..."If we just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely and we don't try to piece together clever diplomacy, but just wage a total war... our children will sing great songs about us years from now..."
This was from an interview with John Pilger.

Another quote:
SNIP..."Two years ago a project set up by the men who now surround George W Bush said what America needed was "a new Pearl Harbor". Its published aims have, alarmingly, come true.

"Buttressing Wolfowitz on the far right is Richard Perle,

1. "Our children will sing great songs..."?

Under the present policies, our children are likely to dig through the rubble. You're a nitwit, Mr. Pilger.

2. Pilger didn't say it, Michael Ledeen did.

and Perle thanked him for it... it was an AEI conference that Perle chaired, hence the confusion. If you dig up the transcript, its indeed Ledeen who said that awful quote.

which makes me feel somewhat sheepish, as I featured it in this:

an alert DUer pointed out the error... a shame, as it so suits Richard Perle as well...

8. Ooops. I really should have read the story. Apologies all around.

Anyway, anyone who wants to wage unnecessary wars in the hopes of becoming a legend is IMHO a moron.

5. They might have the vision, but they no longer have the power.
State has pretty much taken over because Iraq is so FUBARed now.
There was a great article on commondreams today about this.

7. Here is the original Pilger interview. Terrifying.

SNIP...One of George W Bush's "thinkers" is Richard Perle. I interviewed Perle when he was advising Reagan; and when he spoke about "total war", I mistakenly dismissed him as mad. He recently used the term again in describing America's "war on terror". "No stages," he said. "This is total war. We are fighting a variety of enemies. There are lots of them out there. All this talk about first we are going to do Afghanistan, then we will do Iraq... this is entirely the wrong way to go about it. If we just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely and we don't try to piece together clever diplomacy, but just wage a total war... our children will sing great songs about us years from now."

9. that should really be corrected...
Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 10:51 PM by thebigidea
once I was dialing 3 lines frantically to get in on Washington Journal to confront Richard Perle with the quote. He could have just said: "I never said that." and defused it nicely. At which point I probably would be reduced to mocking his combover.

13. Well, now we know it is preserved with Pilger's archives.
And you may now mock his combover....what is left of it.

14. what's the URL for that? I should fire off an email...
I'm sure he already knows, but the Perle/Ledeen confusion should be fixed - it makes us look a bit goofy when we quote it as Richard Perle and it turns out not to be that evil ghoul at all.

15. You are absolutely right for worrying about that
It's not just the BFEE. There are monied interests all over the world, and the BFEE is involved with many of them. Even when not in the White House, the BFEE can exert a great deal of influence (cf. The Hunting of a President)
